The primary purpose of this position is to operate farm-type tractors over level or rolling uneven terrain to maintain road medians and perform ground maintenance. The position requires the use of motor vehicles. Responsibilities Operate farm-type tractors and towed or attached equipment on level or rolling terrain such as open fields, parks, orchards, lawns, and along roadways. Determines equipment operations for maneuvering over level or rolling terrain that are appropriate to the operating characteristics of this tractor and towed or attached equipment. Operates a variety of gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles such as platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks, or dump trucks which typically have a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 10,000 and up to 26,000 lbs. Performs operator maintenance such as checking and replenishing fluids to proper levels. examining and changing filters, changing and sharpening blades, lubricating equipment, and making necessary adjustments. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5700 Transportation/Mobile Equipment Operation Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is: 1. Operation of Motor Vehicles 2. Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) 3. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation) 4. Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) 5. Ability to Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle) 6. Reliability and Dependability as a Tractor Operator (Motor Vehicle) PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
