Star Leasing Company Service Manager in Edwardsville, Illinois

General Purpose:

Directs and coordinates activities of trailer mechanics engaged in the repair and maintenance of semi-trailers by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

  • Reviews all work order requests to determine work priorities and coordinates the activities of all trailer mechanics assigned to facility

  • Prepares estimates for trailer repairs and maintenance as directed by branch Operations Manager, Branch Manager, and Account Manager

  • Approves all repair and maintenance estimates prepared by other branch personnel for accuracy

  • Responsible for maintaining shop efficiency (mechanic productivity) levels at or above company standards and various others operating efficiencies as determined by the VPs of Operations & Maintenance and Branch Manager:

    1. Must maintain “Mech Hour Productivity” rating of 115% or higher over each fiscal half
    1. Must maintain “Invoiced Mech Hour Productivity” rating of 115% or higher over each fiscal half
    1. Must maintain “Current PM Percentage” of 95% or higher over each fiscal half
    1. Must maintain a “WO Processing” score of 10 during each fiscal half
    1. Must receive a “Branch Audit” score of 94% or higher with regards to any “Service” related items on Branch Audit
    1. Must maintain Service Dept. “Overtime Percentage” at 3% or less over each fiscal half
    1. Must maintain a profitable “Shop LOB after Admin. Expenses” of at least 30% of “Shop Revenue”
    1. Must maintain a “Parts Inventory Turn Ratio” of 30-days or less
  • Establishes policies for inspection, maintenance, and repair of vehicles; schedules repairs; assigns and directs activities of service and repair personnel; and inspects all repairs performed for quality

  • Authorizes all purchases of shop supplies, tools, equipment and machinery necessary for the daily operation of shop facility

  • Responsible for coordinating the repair and routine preventive maintenance on all service vehicles assigned to shop facility

  • Directs training and indoctrination of all trailer mechanics to improve work performance and acquaint trailer mechanics with company policies and procedures

  • Responsible for the processing of all documents associated with maintaining a service facility that includes: shop supplies, work orders, payroll, employee evaluations, vendor invoices and discipline

  • Responsible for ensuring that all OSHA safety regulations and requirements are current and administered

  • Confers with management, and quality control personnel to resolve maintenance problems and recommends measures to improve the operation and condition of trailers, service vehicles, road tractors, shop tools, equipment and machinery

  • Responsible for insuring the maintenance department has enough foreign shop work to achieve all the above criteria.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Currently has direct supervision of all employees in the Service Department and (1) Service Administrators
    • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws
    • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
    • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
    • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
    • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
    • Maintain a valid driver's license and remain insurable through Star's insurer.
