The primary purpose of this position, AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC, WG-8602-11 Target 12, is to test, trim, troubleshoot, repair, service and modify a multitude of aircraft and aircraft engines which are normally test, first article and/or pre-production that are specifically instrumented or modified. Duty Title: Jet Engine Test Cell Mechanic Responsibilities Accomplish maintenance to test, trim, troubleshoot, repair, service and modify a multitude of aircraft and aircraft engines. Ensure proper use and control of Composite Tool Kit (CTK), special, and delicate precision tools and instruments. Perform and maintain accurate documentation on each level of engine maintenance and testing. Perform duties and maintenance procedures while strictly complying with health and safety requirements. Maintain professional working relations and demonstrate good communication skills with fellow employees, supervisors, and each person they encounter, both military and civilian. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. TARGETED POSITION: This position is a developmental WG-11 Target WG-12 position. This position may be filled at any grade level. Individual selected may be promoted without further competition, upon meeting all legal and regulatory requirements. Starting salary indicated on this vacancy announcement is for the (WG-11). Attainment of knowledge, skills, and abilities is required before promotion to the next higher grade and is dependent on demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the next higher grade level, meeting all regulatory requirements, and recommendation for promotion by the supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8600 Engine Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (Includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Troubleshooting PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee stands, stoops, bends, and reaches. Frequently handles items weighing up to 10 pounds and often lifts and carries assemblies weighing up to 50 pounds. Hoists, hand trucks, lifts, and other employees are available to assist when handling heavy or awkward items. May be required to climb steps and ladders and stand on slippery or inclined surfaces. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The employee often works in clean, well-lighted, and well-ventilated production areas. May work outside or inside in areas that are drafty and noisy and have low lighting such as aircraft hangars. They stand on concrete or hard composition floors for long periods of time. Frequently exposed to grease and solvents, to noise from drills and hammers, and to the possibility of cuts and abrasions from handling tools and parts. Requires exposure to hazardous materials, extreme noises, exhaust and fuel fumes, wind, dust, and extreme temperatures.
