Insight Global is looking for an experienced, energetic and engaged Microbiology Laboratory Supervisor/Manager to join a leading international science group that provides a range of analytical testing services to clients. They are looking for a candidate that will take operational ownership of a food testing microbiology Lab in western Canada. The desired candidate should have multiple years of food microbiology testing experience (or related field) and leadership track record.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead laboratory operations, schedule work, and train employees

  • Train technical staff on test methods, SOPs, regulations, ISO requirements, and lab policies

  • Ensure high standards of quality and efficiency in lab operations

  • Manage coverage, performance, and foster morale and teamwork

  • Assist Business Unit Manager with daily microbiology lab operations, including scheduling, supervising, and performing analyses

  • Conduct timely and accurate sample analyses, including preparation, data review, and interpretation

  • Investigate non-conformances, implement corrective actions, and verify resolution

  • Review, validate, and report technical data; execute work stoppages for quality issues and resume operations once resolved

  • Apply quality measures and adhere to Quality System documents (e.g., Quality Manual, SOPs)

  • Troubleshoot and maintain equipment, coordinate major repairs, and ensure equipment is properly cleaned, calibrated, and maintained

  • Maintain accurate records for quality control and ISO compliance, and ensure analytical work meets ISO standards

  • Evaluate test data for accuracy and compliance with SOPs and test methods, including basic statistical analysis

  • Create and review reports, conduct interviews, and make hiring decisions

  • Review staff performance annually, stay updated on industry advancements, and adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations

  • Perform other assigned duties as needed

Skills and Requirements

  • 5+ years of food Microbiology testing experience in a commercial laboratory (or related field)

  • BSC or higher in Biology, Micro biology or related Field

  • Leadership experience in testing Laboratory (or related Field)

  • Hands on leader, comfortable with working in a fast paced environment with proven problem solving skills.

  • Strong computer skills, MS OFFICE, LIMS

  • Ability to travel for training and work in sister laboratories for at least first 6mo, potentially temporarily relocate to Toronto or US. - Lean six sigma certification.

  • Experience operating with ISO 17025 experience

  • QC/QA experience in laboratory testing. null
