MTF Automation Technician, Chemical Operations, 3rd Shift in Edison, New Jersey

Overview/Risks

The Automation Technician, Chemical Operations will maintain, troubleshoot and repair Fluid Handling Systems (FHS). Autoclaves, Lyophilizers, Isolator Generators, Liquid Nitrogen Systems, Control Rate Freezers and Cryo-Tanks. Incumbent must be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a cGMP environment. Good safety and documentation practices are essential to this position.The Automation Technician, Chemical Operations will be responsible for the day to day operation of the systems mentioned above by performing task such as: steam sterilization, chemical batching, documenting system and chemical waste handling. This position also requires participation on teams in order to develop and implement new process and process improvements that are chemical, electrical, and mechanical in nature. The incumbent is expected to cover open shifts which may extend their normal workday and or work weekends as required. The individual must be able to work with their team to provide 24 hours a day 7 days a week support. The incumbent must have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills in order to execute preventive and corrective maintenance of electrochemical systems. A working knowledge of chemical distribution loops, tanks, pumps, sterilizing filters, valves, instrumentation, PLC and other critical system components.

Sunday Night -Friday Morning11:00pm-7:00am

Responsibilities

  1. Maintain a safe and clean manufacturing operation adhering to cGMP, environmental, health, and safety regulations.

  2. Accurately document all work activities according to current procedures. Examples to include but are not limited to: preventive maintenance records, corrective maintenance records, steam sterilization documentation, chemical batch records, chemical waste records.

  3. Perform system sterilizations, chemical batching/sampling, nitrogen tank change-outs, chemical waste handling, preventive and unscheduled maintenance, and maintenance of spare parts inventory.

  4. Monitor and address freezers and refrigerators alarms throughout the facility and accurately document the root cause of each alarm.

  5. Transport and deliver chemical drums and equipment to various areas using drum hand truck, forklift, and/or cart.

  6. Coordinate maintenance and calibration vendors as required for emergency and scheduled service.

  7. Working knowledge of plant utilities (electrical, steam, compressed air, N2, etc.) and ability to change pressurized cylinders and set-up/break down equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

  8. Must pay strict attention to detail and follow Standard Operating Procedures.

  9. Maintain the chemical inventory and chemical waste in accordance with MTF policies and regulatory requirements.

  10. Participate in the implementation of process improvement projects and contribute technical support to project teams.

  11. Must be able to efficiently prioritize work based on the needs of our internal customers and be willing to work overtime as needed.

  12. The Automation Technician, Chemical Operations is required to provide On-Call support as needed. On-Call support is on a rotating basis and will be shared with other Automation Technician, Chemical Operations.

  13. Maintain gowning and gloving qualifications for entry into cleanrooms.

  14. Enter cleanrooms as necessary in order to troubleshoot and resolve maintenance related challenges.

  15. Assist with special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School Diploma/GED

Years of Experience: 2 - 3 years

Other: Minimum 2 years’ experience in an electro-mechanical role

Specialized Knowledge, Technical Skills, and Abilities:

  • Able to navigate and operate the processes through the automation and manual functions, read Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)

  • Able to rebuild and change out pumps, diaphragms, and valves.

  • Able to follow standard work instructions.

  • Experience with lockout/tag-out, confined space entry, and other industrial safety practices

  • Proficient understanding of SDS and able to follow safety requirements of chemicals.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Associate’s Degree with mechanical and/or electrical focus

Years of Experience: 3 - 5 years
