About the job:

Responsible for the overall success of Youth Residential Services (YRS), with a particular emphasis on strategic planning and overseeing successful clinical treatment and offerings at each program. Define and maintain standards of excellence exceeding what is required by licensure, including accountability to achieving key clinical success measures. This position leads Youth Residential Services and works as part of the VOA leadership team to ensure quality services align with VOA MN and WI’s values and strategic vision.

Essentials:

•Organizational Leadership

· Demonstrate commitment and accountability to organization’s vision, mission, and values.

· Contribute to execution of organization’s strategic plan and operational priorities

· Develop annual strategic and operational plans for service lines, maintaining an understanding of policy and environmental shifts that might impact financial performance or service delivery

· Represent YRS and VOA MN/WI as experts in their field internally and externally

• Strategic Planning and Innovation

· Ideate, explore, and design new service delivery initiatives in response to shifting community needs and funding sources

· Through extensive knowledge of current service lines, the Senior Director will be responsible for developing, implementing, and determining sustainable strategic models that enhance and maximize the services and delivery mechanisms we provide to those in our care

· Identify, nurture, and recommend innovative mission- and program-aligned opportunities along the mental health continuum of care for youth entrusted to our care

• Financial Management and Planning

· Create and assume responsibility for annual budget planning and management

· Responsible for setting and reaching stated financial goals; understand variances and create plans to address them

· Approve service line expenditures as per spending approval policy and guidelines

• Operations and Administration

· Negotiate contracts and maintain relationships with funding and referral sources

· Assess and evaluate program results, making adjustments as appropriate

· Maintain current operational policies and administer programs in compliance with all external licensing and funding requirements

· Lead and manage service line teams

      o Manage hiring and termination of employees in existing positions/roles

      o Set clear annual performance expectations, based on defined job descriptions

      o Conduct or supervise annual performance reviews of all staff

· Work collaboratively with VOA MN/WI mission support teams (i.e., Finance, HR, IT) to ensure healthy and successful program operations

• Promote a Culturally Competent Workforce

· Facilitate Diversity, Equity and Inclusion work, ensuring activities and goals are shared and cascaded to all employees.

· Commit to expanding knowledge about culture, cultural competence, and the dimensions of culture at VOA MN/WI.

· Commit to promote cultural competence in YRS programs through staff development and training, hiring, retention, promotions, and performance reviews.

· Create a safe and supportive environment where employees can explore and develop an understanding and appreciation for all cultures.

Required Qualifications:

Education and Experience

· Fully licensed mental health professional (LICSW, LMFT, LPCC, LP) with a valid state of Minnesota License

· Must be a MN board-approved clinical supervisor OR must be eligible to be a board-approved supervisor within three months of hire

· At least five years of leadership experience in clinical or residential treatment setting

Communication and managerial skills

· Ability to demonstrate and model stable, appropriate boundaries with residents, families and staff

· Working understanding of human resource principles, practices, and procedures

· Significant problem-solving and executive skill sets

· Ability to function well in a high-paced and changing environment

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills 

· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail  

Reporting Structure

· This role will have the following direct reports – Program Directors, Nursing Director, Business Operations Manager

· This role will be part of VOA MN and WI’s Directors’ Team and engage with other senior leaders at the agency
