Job Description:


The Phlebotomist Technician Team Leader provides leadership for the laboratory phlebotomy area, assists management in providing daily direction of staffing, performs blood and urine collection procedures utilizing standard collection methods, ensures work schedules and business needs are met, escalates issues and problems to management, participates in development and implementation of new techniques and procedures, and demonstrates problem-solving and interpersonal skills. This individual assists in and supports orientation and training of staff, and provides input for staff evaluations. This individual performs the routine duties of their position according to the procedures established for the lab, and participates in the supportive functions for their assigned area of the lab.



For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.

Minimum Required: High School diploma or equivalent.

Preferred/Optional: Successful completion of a post-secondary phlebotomy-training program.


Minimum Required: Three years’ experience within the Marshfield Clinic Health System (MCHS) or its affiliates performing venipunctures, skin punctures and specimen processing. Demonstrated proficiency with communication skills, customer service, and clerical duties. Demonstrated leadership ability.

Preferred/Optional: Three years’ experience as a phlebotomy technician, including experience as a team leader. Demonstrated proficiency with problem-solving techniques.


The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.

Minimum Required: Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) certification awarded by the American Society for Clinical Pathology. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire.

Preferred/Optional: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification awarded by the American Heart Association or the Red Cross. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) at time of hire.
