Chelan Douglas Health District Covid-19 Vaccination Outreach Worker in East Wenatchee, Washington

Summary Description: The Community Health Educator provides culturally appropriate health education throughout Chelan and Douglas County. They provide education and outreach to high-risk populations and Hispanic communities. Outreach workers report to a program manager who reviews work for professional competence and fulfillment of established policies and procedures. This is a temporary, non-benefit eligible position, expected to last up to 6 months with potential for renewal based off Covid-19 funding. To insure the highest level of services are provided, additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed by the supervisor or the Health Administrator. Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions): *Provide culturally appropriate health education. Health duties include home visiting, telephone contact, data and record keeping *Interpret: provide accurate verbal and written translation between English and Spanish languages *Community Outreach: Attend community meetings, trainings, develop educational resources (pamphlets, booklets, etc.) and educate the community in group settings (churches, schools, etc.) or by using radio, newspaper and social media *Develop strategies with families to overcome barriers to access *Assist coordinator acting as liaison between community groups working with at-risk individuals and the Health District *Work with the communication and outreach team as necessary to effectively promote and coordinate outreach efforts *Develop and implement alternative outreach programs (i.e., focus groups, home visiting, door to door outreach, etc.) *Attend appropriate workshops and staff meetings Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: *Ability to assess client needs and provide linkage and referrals as needed *Ability to use Office Word, Excel and Outlook *Ability to learn relevant applications and required databases *Knowledge of community needs and resources *Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully one on one, to a public group, and through social media *Ability and willingness to work as a team member and with diverse populations *Knowledge of HIPAA requirements *Ability to limit the provision of health information to that which is reviewed or provided by a public health nurse and never give medical health advice to any patient, client or individual *Requires ability to communicate orally and in writing in English and in Spanish *Requires ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, District officials, colleagues, professionals and the public *Ability to work effectively with individuals presenting with high-risk lifestyles *Adhere to all safety and privacy policies *Keep customer service as a central priority *Ability to work in an environment that may become stressful and chaotic * *Level Requirements (Minimum): Education *High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent *Promotor/a certification or at least one year working in outreach *Valid Washington State driver's license or ability to obtain one within two weeks of date of hire. *Ability to pass a background check Experience *Bi-lingual in English and Spanish, written and oral *Experience with volunteer recruitment and training *Experience in health or social services **A combination of education, training, and experience which has provided theoretical and practical knowledge will be evaluated for equivalency.
