University Medicine Clinical Nurse Manager Endoscopy in East Providence, Rhode Island

SUMMARY:

The Clinical Nurse Manager reports directly to Senior Director, Ambulatory Operations. The Clinical Nurse Manager is responsible for the direct supervision of the Endoscopy Center Staff, and for planning, organizing, and directing daily clinical operation of the established policies, procedures, standards, and departmental objectives. Oversees daily operations - initial scheduling, triage, pre-op activities, actual procedure, and post op care. Provides support to staff, patients, physicians, and outside customers. Analyzes and evaluates services to improve quality of care while enhancing a teamwork approach to active problem solving. Will perform all other duties, as assigned within the scope of practice and expectations of a Nurse Manager in an Endoscopy Center.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Assist the Program Manager, Ambulatory physician leadership and operational leadership with developing and maintaining goals and objectives, standards of practice, policy and procedure manual and written job descriptions for all personnel. Assists in development of budget and monitoring variances.

Responsible for staff adherence to the Quality Program.

Participates in Peer Review program and other governance as needed.

Responsible for maintenance and assurance that all site equipment is in working order and routinely inspected. Documentation of this activity is required.

Supervise nursing and ancillary staff, work directly as a staff member at the site in patient care if sick calls, incidence, or needs arise.

Responsible for ongoing evaluation and performance reviews of staff.

Provide for staff development and in-service education in clinical and safety matters.

Ensures the development and delivery of nursing education to staff.

In collaboration with physician and operational leadership, develop, revise and implement endoscopy policies and procedures. Ensures adherence to all policies and procedures by all staff.

Responsible for recruiting, hiring and onboarding staff members.

In collaboration with Program Manager, conducts annual review of all policies and procedures updating as necessary and training/education staff on changes.

Coordinate orientation schedules for new staff.

Assume responsibility and initiative for problem solving and decision-making with staff and

appropriate others.

Scheduling daily staffing, vacations, and sick leave.

Ensures staff adherence to infection prevention program.

In collaboration with Program Manager, CMS/AAAHC survey requirements on an ongoing basis and revise as needed to maintain state accreditation

Ensure Credentialing for physicians and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists are complete, accurate, and time sensitive.

Delegate authority as appropriate to qualified staff members.

Maintain records, reports and logs to meet accrediting requirements.

Ensure compliance with federal and state guidelines.

Assist with writing, planning, implementing, and maintaining the quality assurance program.

Develops and oversees logs used to evaluate equipment usage.

Provide direction, coordination, and evaluation of patient care.

Deliver direct nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process.

Assist with endoscopy.

Involved with the purchase and maintenance of Endoscopy equipment and supplies.

Maintain safe environment for patients and staff.

Provide patient education.

Daily evaluation of staff documentation.

Ongoing evaluation of patient level of skilled care under the parameters of state guidelines.

Ongoing evaluation of efficiency in healthcare delivery system.

Responsible for developing and implementing a drug usage and surveillance program. Includes purchasing and logging of the following medications: narcotics, non-narcotic, and emergency

medications.

Responsible for overseeing supply orders and maintaining appropriate inventory, tracking and trending of data.

Responsible for analyzing production and maximizing efficiency of daily throughput of cases at the center.

Assures all staff are BLS/ACLS certified providing classes and monitoring updates.

Oversees patient schedules for the center along with a staffing plan for best care and efficiency.

Coordinate all services of laundry, ambulance, hospital transport/admit, Oxygen delivery

system, vacuum pump, pressure tank, hot water supply, medical supplies, biomed services,

and all other services utilized through the system.

Maintain open and positive communication with nursing personnel and other health professionals.

Administer medications as directed by the physician under the guidelines of the State Board

of Nursing.

Communicate with patients, families/significant others.

Maintains professionalism with established relationships.

Maintain confidentiality of patient and personnel information.

Participate in continuing education.

Effective written and oral communication

Advanced computer/informatics skills (e.g. electronic health records, spreadsheets, word processing)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

BSN from accredited school of nursing

Current RI RN License

BLS

ACLS

Five (5) years previous GI experience

Two (2) years previous managerial experience
