Please learn more about the department at our website{rel="nofollow"}.   DCD is seeking an ASSOCIATE PLANNER to join our team!  The Associate Planner will serve in the Development Services and Engineering Division with the Department.  Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, this position will review and process land use and environmental development permit applications.  The incumbent will also assist residents with general permit or development code inquiries, as well as assist senior level planners by conducting analysis, research, and assist in preparation of code development activities.  

The position may also support other projects as assigned.  QUALIFICATIONS FOR PERFORMANCE OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in planning or closely related field from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the US Department of Education with major coursework in major coursework in urban planning, city and regional planning, OR
  • Four years of progressively responsible technical or professional work experience in land use and environmental review and permit processing, OR
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the work.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, OR QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two years experience as a planner or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Washington State Growth Management Act, State Environmental Policy Act, Shoreline Management Act, long range planning, and community planning.

The hourly amount for this position ranges from $28.14-$39.78. This position offers medical, dental, vision, life insurance, a pension retirement, and other voluntary benefits.
