Caterpillar’s Large Track-type Tractor (LTTT) team is currently seeking a Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) Black Belt to lead projects that improve the quality, reliability and durability of the Large Track-type Tractor product line.

As a CPI Black Belt, this position plays a critical role in our quest to deliver defect-free products to our customers and will primarily focus on leading projects to achieve this goal. The role will focus on working across the organization to deliver thorough root cause corrective action (RCCA) and drive to address the “True Root Cause” of issues related to our products.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading CPI projects to address issues and defects related to design, manufacturing and supplier quality

  • Supporting the team in data analysis to identify and prioritize key issues to ensure we minimize customer downtime

  • Close collaboration with the extended team to support our End-to-End BIQ journey, including a focus on analysis of all field defects and implementing robust stop capability to protect our customers

  • Create service literature (TIB’s, service magazines, special instructions and/or service letters) to communicate improvements to the field

  • Provide coaching to the extended organization on effective RCCA and identification of “True Root Cause” to address the broken process that allowed the defect to be created

Success in this role will be measured in two key areas:

  • CPI Project closure and “True Root Cause” resolution

  • Defect per Unit (DPU) metrics for the products relative to % Defect Free targets

Basic Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in product development, design engineering, product service engineering, or as a field Technical Representative. Experience in more than one product development area or product group is desirable.

  • Experience program management or project management. Candidates are expected to understand and be able to apply the tools and methods for requirements development, functional specification development, boundary diagrams, interface matrices, and FMEAs.

  • Excellent communication skills (written, oral, presentation) for a global and diverse audience

  • Strong analytical skills and capabilities. Ability to draw insights from data to make quick, well informed decisions.

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology Field or equivalent experience

  • 6 Sigma Black Belt training in DMAIC

  • Ability to build strong relationships with various stakeholders and strong business acumen

  • Distinct customer focus

  • Ability to understand both technology and business domains

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

• Identifies and documents specific problems and resolution alternatives.

• Examines a specific problem and understands the perspective of each involved stakeholder.

• Develops alternative techniques for assessing accuracy and relevance of information.

• Helps to analyze risks and benefits of alternative approaches and obtain decision on resolution.

• Uses fact-finding techniques and diagnostic tools to identify problems.

Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.

• Provides input for Gantt or PERT charts or their equivalent to track project progress and status.

• Under guidance, plans and estimates simple projects.

• Assists in detailed project plans including cost, schedule, and resource requirements.

• Obtains information from stakeholders during the planning stage of a project.

• Produces standard project status reports.

The primary location for this position is East Peoria, IL (SS)
