The Anatomic and Clinical Staff Pathologist provides diagnostic services within Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Services. Responsibilities The Anatomic and Clinical Staff Pathologist: provides diagnostic services within Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Services, and provides histopathology, cytology and clinical pathology professional duties. Candidates must be Board Certified by the ABP in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Duties include: Gross and microscopic examinations of tissue specimens Cytology assessment of gynecological and non-gynecological specimens Intraoperative consultations with frozen sections and Mohs surgery examinations Rapid onsite evaluation of cytology specimens Autopsy services Oversight and teaching of Pathology residents from Rutgers University and other clinical training programs Support of clinical services with consultations, Tumor Board, Cancer Care, and other specialty conferences Support of research and scholarly activities Participation in Quality Management activities for both Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Participation in ongoing compliance activities and The Joint Commission laboratory and hospital inspections and accreditation Involvement in Clinical Pathology specialty areas and assisting the Chief, PLMS, in oversight and direction of clinical laboratory sections Opportunity to participate in laboratory management and administrative functions Consultations and support of clinical and administrative colleagues Candidates with specialty interests are encouraged to apply. Strong interest and/or experience in the clinical laboratory with a willingness to be actively involved in clinical laboratory operations and special projects is essential. This position will help candidates to develop and maintain a broad-based involvement in the entire pathology and laboratory medicine service. Laboratory staff are extremely receptive to pathologist involvement and advocacy and VA NJHCS personnel welcome PLMS guidance and support. Work Schedule: 8:00AM-4:30PM Financial Disclosure Report: Not required Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical requirements outlined below. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. Physical Requirements: Light lifting (under 15 lbs), light carrying (under 15 lbs), use of fingers, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other, hearing (aid permitted), emotional stability, mental stability.
