Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides technical support. Responsibilities may include computer programming or operations; research support; medical patient care; technical equipment maintenance, repair, fabrication or operation; or other technical support functions.

Unit Position Summary

Sonographer Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Specializes in performing Ultrasound diagnostic studies on Veterinary patients.
  • Operates assigned Ultrasound scanning equipment to ensure it works properly.
  • Positions patients, selects appropriate transducers and machine settings and conducts scanning procedures to correctly capture the images requested by a Veterinarian.
  • Maintains all required documentation, logs, charts, forms and records in paper and electronic formats.
  • May assist other areas of Radiology as assigned and performs other related duties as required and directed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an approved school of medical sonography.
  • Registration as Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS).
Desired Qualifications

Experience working in a Veterinary setting; experience in a teaching hospital.

Caring for animals with potential TB and rabies risk; may wear a respirator.

Summary of Physical Demands

This position will be lifting animal patients onto cages and medical equipment; carrying animals between cages and exam tables and gurneys; pushing carts containing animals and equipment to other units; climbing stairs carrying lab samples; restraining animals; preparing for medical procedures and treatments.
