Position Summary

The College of Engineering at Michigan State University (MSU) is excited to launch the new Bachelor of Science in Technology Engineering program. This innovative new program is multidisciplinary, bringing together faculty in mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering. The Technology Engineering program invites applications for a full-time, fixed-term Teaching Specialist in Computer Aided Design and Prototyping, with an expected start date of April 1, 2024. This position is an academic year (9-month) appointment with anticipated additional duties for Summer 2024. The appointment is a renewable three-year contract, contingent upon positive annual performance reviews.

The selected candidate will develop and teach courses at the undergraduate level in computer aided design, manufacturing processes, and prototyping. The selected candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues in the Technology Engineering program and in the College of Engineering to ensure courses meet the learning objectives to prepare students for requisite courses. The College is actively seeking candidates who will set and achieve goals for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in their teaching and service efforts, working with students and industry leaders in engineering.

Minimum Requirements

  • a Master’s degree completed by position start date;

  • strong communication skills;

  • demonstrated experience in working directly with the application/ instruction of computer aided design tools, products, or machines; and

  • ability to engage with undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds and explain complex topics in an understandable way.

Desired Qualifications

  • Relevant professional licensing and/or certifications;

  • experience with curriculum development;

  • three or more years of industry experience;

  • three or more years teaching undergraduate engineering.

  • Additional experience with project management, quality assurance, and the engineering design process are a plus.

Department Statement

The new Technology Engineering Program in the College of Engineering at MSU is a collaboration of faculty, staff, students, and industry to develop programs which incorporate computer science and engineering principles and prepare students to succeed academically and professionally. Courses in cybersecurity, embedded systems, automation, data science and computer hardware/software development, for example, utilize hands-on, real-world projects to integrate modern technologies with the foundational engineering mindset. The Technology Engineering Program at MSU is student-centered in a welcoming and inclusive space. The Bachelor of Science in Technology Engineering degree program is tentatively scheduled to enroll undergraduates in Fall 2024.
