Position Summary

The College of Osteopathic Medicine's Learning and Assessment Center (LAC) is seeking applications for a Simulation Education for the East Lansing campus. The individual in this position will be responsible for managing simulation-based educational activities for a broad range of learners including medicine, nursing, residents and practicing clinicians. LAC business hours are 7:00-5:30 with working days for this position negotiable. Occasional evening or weekends may be required depending upon scheduling needs and special events. Position responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Participate in planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of academic and professional development programs on campus, off-site and/or virtually; collaborates with multiple simulation team members. Develop simulation activities which incorporate diversity, equity and inclusion while consulting with appropriate content experts or educational faculty partners. Coordinate simulation experiences including communications with stakeholders, acquisition of equipment/supplies, training of standardized patients and/or per diem healthcare providers. Facilitates standardized patient training. Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives to continuously improve implementation of events (e.g. analyze and synthesize feedback, SP/HCP Performance Improvement Observations, etc.) Maintain current knowledge within the field of healthcare simulation and integrate methodologies (human patient simulators, standardized patients, etc.) into learning activities.

Serves as a member of and liaison and consultant to MSU community and engages with simulation organizations; participates in and/or coordinates development of workshops, educational programs and conferences offered at the center; collaborates with community, regional, national and/or international users to advance the use of immersive simulation and standardized patients in healthcare education.

Minimum Requirements

Masters Degree-Nursing. Minimum of two years of direct patient clinical experience in acute or critical care setting or experience in healthcare simulation. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of organizational personnel including faculty, staff, students and individuals external to the university. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize and work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines. Commitment to the MSU and LAC philosophy, policies, procedures, practices and professional behaviors relative to diversity, equity and inclusion. Current BLS certification.

Desired Qualifications

ACLS and/or instructor certifications. Masters degree in nursing. Experience with healthcare simulation. Experience working with diverse populations of learners. Experience planning, developing, implementing, evaluating and customizing clinical education programs. Knowledge of educational theory, principles and methods of adult education. Experience with instructional technologies such as high-fidelity simulators. Working knowledge of Quality Assurance and/or Quality Improvement processes. Evidence of scholarly engagement.
