Position Summary

Michigan State University's International Studies and Programs (ISP) is the hub for international research, teaching and outreach. As a university-level office under the leadership of a vice provost and dean, ISP supports international activities throughout the institution, working to mobilize MSU's research and scholarship, enhance study abroad and other educational programs, form and strengthen international partnerships, and welcome and support international visitors, scholars and students.

The Canadian Studies Center is celebrating its 65^th^ anniversary and is distinguished as one of the first centers in the United States. The Center is engaged with over a diverse affiliated faculty representing academic departments in all of MSU's 17 colleges. The Center also supports undergraduate graduate, professional, and post-doctoral fellows in pursuit of the study of Canada or education in Canada.  As part of the new strategic plan, the Center will also be focusing on building Canadian Studies networks within the United States through the Midwest Association of Canadian Studies. The Center will also be focusing on developing a strategic network of Canadian partners through Canada Connect.

The Canadian Studies Center is searching for an Assistant Director who will report to the Director and collaborate with other staff in support of center initiatives. The title will depend on the education and experience of the incumbent. This is a 100% level of effort position funded for one year with the possibility of renewal based on funding and performance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Canadian Studies Center Director to support MSU activities in the four ISP thematic and other priority areas by connecting and convening key individuals and facilitating the establishment of platforms that can support thematically focused and cross-thematic strategic activities
  • In collaboration with the Canadian Studies Center Director, lead and assist in the launching of the Canada Connect platform
  • Implement the CN Forum and other events planned and organized by the Canadian Studies Center
  • Develop initiative and promote the development of grant proposals emerging from the activities of the Canadian Study Center and other Canadian-related MSU entities
  • Coordinate the preparation and submission of grant proposals from the Canadian Studies Center
  • Coordinate speakers, contracts, facilities, publicity, and budgets to develop and facilitate workshops, conferences, and programs aligned with priorities of the Canadian Studies Center
  • Under the supervision of the Director, supervise duties of staff and student employees
  • Manage communications for the Canadian Studies Center (website, social media, newsletter, briefing materials, etc.)
  • Oversee maintenance of lists of Center-affiliated faculty and their research and teaching activities as they relate to Canada
  • Attend meetings on behalf of the Canadian Studies Center Director
  • Develop agendas for visitors, liaise with the Dean's Office and other ISP units and MSU colleges to ensure that visitors accomplish the objectives of their visit
  • Liaise with other ISP units to determine points of mutual interest regarding Canadian engagement
  • Support the goals and objectives of the Midwest Association of Canadian Studies
  • Make presentations on the Canadian Studies Center to internal and external constituents
