Position Summary

The Department of Psychiatry seeks a PhD, PsyD, MSW to work on the Prevent2Protect(P2P) project a 5-year, $15M project sponsored by the Michigan Department of Education. The Lead Case Manager will work in the P2P Office in the MSU Department of Psychiatry, East Lansing, MI. The Lead Case Manager is an integral member of the hub team and will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating services with stakeholders in the communities. The Lead Case Manager will also be responsible for providing guidance for case managers working in five regions of the state. This role will interact with the P2P’s Co-Directors, regional managers, and mentors daily to ensure coordination of care, and implementation of services for identified high-risk, high-need adolescents.

The initial faculty appointment period will be through September 30, 2027, with possibility of extension based on the successful achievement of work goals and the availability of grant funds.

Work breakdown

20% Performs professional level leadership duties guiding five regional case managers and mentors arranging services which meet the social, emotional, mental, and physical health needs and goals for identified at-risk adolescents and their caregivers (as appropriate)

20% Plans, assigns, directs, reviews, and evaluates programs, activities, and staff work to provide for the optimal delivery of services for identified at-risk adolescents in such areas as trauma, crisis response and intervention, substance use, preparation for community integration, and living and educational achievement and skills

20% Works with community stakeholders, securing services for adolescents that have been identified as identified high-risk, high need through referrals from parents or other referral sources.

10% Facilitates regular meetings with regional case managers and mentors to provide support and obtain progress reports for each case

10% Provide regular reports to Project leadership on the number of at-risk adolescents and progress toward identifying/securing services for them and their families

10% Assists Project leadership in preparing reports and educational materials for program sponsors and other key stakeholders

5% Ensures integrity and effectiveness of such services and compliance with federal and state rules and regulations

5% Other duties as assigned

Required Degree

Masters -Social Work, Psychology

Minimum Requirements

  • Masters or PhD in Psychology or Social Work required

  • Current license to practice in the state of Michigan

  • Five to ten years of progressively more responsible work experience, preferably working with high-risk children, adolescents and their caregivers

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain individualized care plans and supervise the implementation of those plans in a community setting.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain, and enhance strong relationships with teachers, guidance counselors, mental health providers and/or other community resource providers, adolescents, and their families

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of superior leadership including organizational, interpersonal, coaching and communication skills

  • Demonstrated effectiveness working within a multi-disciplinary team setting

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Demonstrated experience working in or with K-12 schools

  • Training in crisis intervention, risk assessment, threat assessment and/or working within a behavioral assessment team
