Instructional Technology Specialist

Position Summary

The Eli Broad College of Business is seeking an Instructional Technology Specialist. This role is a new addition to the Broad Learning Technology and Development team, which is dedicated to building a culture of instructional best practice and accessibility. We engage with instructors to optimize instructional design, educational technology, accessibility, and assessment. As part of the LTD team, you will ensure the e?ective utilization of digital learning platforms and technologies through the following: 

• Customize, maintain, and manage D2L course templates (general & program-speci?c) as features and source code is updated by MSU IT • Build D2L courses using course templates; populating the Content, Checklists, Discussions, Assignments, Quizzes, Rubrics, Gradebook, etc.; and addressing accessibility issues in coordination with student workers. • Implement the D2L Standards tool to facilitate the Assurance of Learning initiative for AACSB accreditation. • Orient faculty to ensure pro?ciency with their courses. • Assist with project management related to course development and technology integration. • Design and facilitate in-person D2L training sessions for instructors. • Advise on and develop code-based course enhancements (e.g., HTML-based interactive content) • Address technical issues related to web design, multimedia content, and digital learning materials for supported courses.

The minimum salary for this position is $70,000. Consideration will be given for years of experience. Every e?ort will be made to provide a competitive salary that is equitable amongst Broad faculty facing professionals.

Required Degree

Masters -Instructional technology, computer science, or related.

Minimum Requirements 

The demands of this job require that you have a combination of skills surrounding course development, user experience design, consulting, web development, and digital accessibility. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proactive and adaptable approach to course design and a strategic mindset geared towards optimizing how designs are implemented and experienced by both instructor and student users. You should be con?dent in working with diverse populations and should understand the dynamics of instruction at the university level. It is required that you: 

• Can demonstrate at least 3 years of experience in teaching (with a preference for online or hybrid formats), educational research (especially involving data collection, analysis, and visualization), instructional design, or user experience design/experience architecture. • Can demonstrate at least 2 years of experience in LMS use, administration, and/or technical support, preferably D2L Brightspace or Canvas. • Can demonstrate experience with HTML & CSS coding. • Can recognize universal design and/or accessibility/disability issues, including WCAG 2.0 guidelines and policy implications, ePub3 and video. • Have excellent organizational & project management skills. • Have excellent communication skills.
