Data Acquisition Instrument Scientist

Position Summary

Major Position Responsibilities

  • Develops high-channel-density data acquisition systems and provides operation support

  • Actively participates in FRIB-relevant research

  • Conducts and supports research, design, and development of other scientific data acquisition (SDAQ) systems

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge and expertise in maintenance software, such as Git

  • Significant expertise in object-oriented programming, experience using C/C++ and Python, and knowledge of other programming languages.

  • Skilled at using ROOT/python to build frameworks for analysis of specific experimental data.

  • Ability to critically evaluate software and hardware opportunities for inclusion into acquisition or analysis frameworks.

  • Ability to work independently and with a team

  • Ability to communicate, articulate, and present ideas (both verbally and written skills)

Required Degree

Doctorate -Physics, Computer Science or related field

Minimum Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Physics, Computer Science, or a related field

  • Experience in object-orientated programming and languages such as C, C++, Python

  • Experience with the operation of multi-channel detector systems and associated data acquisition systems

  • One or more years of demonstrated experience in testing hardware and developing software for high-channel density data acquisition systems.
