Position Summary

The postdoc researcher will join a large collaborative NSF project:A macrosystems ecology framework for continental-scale prediction and understanding of lakes(www.lagoslakes.org). The overarching landscape-limnology research topics of this project include understanding multi-scale drivers of lake nutrients and carbon at the continental scale and through time. We are doing so by building LAGOS-US, a multi-scaled database framework, and conducting lake research at macroscales.

This position includes all aspects of data-intensive research both as lead author and as co-author (e.g., question formation; acquisition of existing data and authoring metadata; data visualization, analysis, and interpretation; literature review; manuscript writing; publishing code, data, and manuscripts; and grant proposal writing). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to supervise students or on-call staff to aid in this research effort.

Required Degree

Doctorate -ecology, limnology, landscape ecology, geography, or a related discipline with strong quantitative emphasis (statistics and/or computer science).

Desired Qualifications

The ability to work both independently and collaboratively is essential. Demonstrated excellence in analytical, problem solving, and research skills including oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to write scientific papers; and, knowledge of open science and data-intensive science tools (e.g., R, Github, GIS). The ideal candidate will communicate and interact with students (graduate and undergraduate) and collaborators to exchange information; solve problems; acquire data and document metadata; coordinate research activities; and facilitate administrative and operational needs.
