Position Summary

A post-doctoral (Research Associate) position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Adam Moeser to study regulation of neuroinflammation relevant to neurobehavioral and peripheral inflammatory conditions by mast cells. Mast cells are stress-responsive innate immune cells strategically positioned close to neurovascular and epithelial barrier sites throughout the body and are master regulators of the immune response. Successful applicants will join a diverse and highly interactive group of trainees and established scientists to lead NIH-funded research projects in collaboration with the laboratory of Dr. AJ Robison (Neuroscience, Physiology Department).

The overall objectives of the research projects are to

(1) define the mechanisms by which mast cells are transcriptionally regulated by stress and

(2) define the mechanisms by which mast cells modulate neuroinflammation relevant to stress-associated neurobehavioral disorders and chronic inflammatory diseases.

Applicants must have a doctoral or equivalent degree or be in the final stages of earning such a degree. Basic skills and knowledge base include following skill sets: molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology, cell culture, microscopy, and mouse genetics. Preferred skills or knowledge include Ribotag mouse technology and cell isolation, epigenetics, mast cell biology, sex hormone biology, and stem cell biology. Individuals will have the opportunity to utilize a wide range of established technologies in the lab including in Cre-Lox models, optogenetics, RNA sequencing, organ physiology, and will have access novel translational large animal models. Individuals will be encouraged to develop grant proposal writing skills and engaging in opportunities for professional development will be highly supported. Required Degree

Doctorate - molecular biology, physiology, Immunology

Minimum Requirements

PhD experience in molecular biology and(or) immunology, and experience working with rodent genetic models, biochemical techniques (Western blot, ELISA, qPCR, RNASeq etc.), cell culture, microscopy (confocal, and light) and experience in data analysis and image analysis software.

Desired Qualifications

Expertise in any of the following areas: Mast cell biology, genetic rodent models (Cre-lox, Ribotag, GCaMP).
