Position Summary

The School of Social Work seeks an outstanding scholar to join the faculty as a Research Associate. This is a full-time, academic year, appointment with responsibilities in the following areas: 78% Research, 12% Teaching, and 10% Service/Outreach. The Research Associate will work with Child Welfare researchers in the School who have expertise in child welfare workforce development, child abuse and neglect, child welfare prevention and intervention services, and child welfare policy. This position will include working with existing research teams to advance work that is in progress as well as initiate new research projects. Seeking external funding is expected. Publications and other products from this research are expected. The School of Social Work has a network of strong relationships with the child welfare research and practice community nationally. These provide the ideal opportunity for a junior scholar to build their research portfolio. Current child welfare faculty are prepared to mentor a Research Associate and collaborate on mutually beneficial scholarly outputs such as grants, contracts, and manuscripts. The Research Associate will have the opportunity to gain experience independently teaching and managing a child welfare course in either the practice or policy sequence, depending on their areas of interest and expertise. This one-year position can be renewed for an additional year if criteria are met.

Appointment: This is a 9-month fixed term academic year appointment beginning August 16, 2022. Salary for this position is negotiable and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Required Degree

Doctorate -Social Work or a related field

Minimum Requirements

  • An earned doctorate in Social Work or a related field by the date of hire

  • A commitment to conduct research that informs practice and policy impacting child welfare

  • A beginning record of scholarly productivity as evidenced by peer reviewed manuscripts, national, peer-reviewed conference presentations, and pursuit of research funding

  • Demonstrated excellence in self-motivated research

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Desired Qualifications

  • A record of success in acquiring extramural research funding

  • Experience with data management, data analysis, and data display

  • Research interest and focus on the child welfare workforce

  • Prior social work practice experience in a child welfare setting
