Position Summary

The Wetzel and Szendrei labs at Michigan State University are hiring a postdoctoral research associate for a USDA NIFA-funded project on the temporal ecology of extreme weather events in agroecosystems. The project examines the effects of heat waves on interactions among potato plants, insect herbivores, and predators/parasitoids. A major goal is understanding how the timing of extreme events influence their ecological impacts. We seek to improve our general understanding of the ecology of climate variability and our ability to manage agroecosystems sustainably in the face of climate change.

We have existing datasets, so the postdoc could analyze data and write manuscripts while planning and running growth chamber and/or field experiments with the help of a team of research assistants. Depending on interest, work could span chemical ecology, thermal physiology, population dynamics, plant-herbivore interactions, and/or predator-prey interactions. The position is funded for 2 yrs; initial appointment for 1 year, with reappointment based on satisfactory review. Flexible start, ideally by June 2022.
