Michigan State University Maintenance Worker I in East Lansing, Michigan
Position Summary
This position will assist and/or perform routine semi-skilled maintenance and repair work in areas of carpentry, painting, plumbing, heating, lighting, and general mechanics within the MSU Union and Alumni Chapel.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
Repair and alter floors, doors, roofs, decks, stairways, rails, and screening.
Repair and replace wood and aluminum window and door frames.
Install window glass and plexiglass and repair aluminum storm doors, closers, and chains.
Adjust and make minor repairs to locks on exterior and interior doors.
Replace and install weather stripping on doors and windows.
Re-caulk doors, windows, and exterior panels.
Varnish and/or paint doors and other parts of building's exterior and interior.
Patch and re-plaster walls and ceilings.
Install plasterboard, dry wall, ceramic, and plastic tiles.
Construct minor cement forms.
Adjust water softeners.
Make minor adjustments and repairs to heating equipment.
Tighten and replace belts in fans and motors.
Replace light bulbs, fuses, and make minor electrical switch repairs and replacements.
Replace incinerator grates and make and install incinerator screens.
Assist in replacing eave troughs, drain spouts, expansion joints, and installation of sheet metal flashings.
Perform related duties as assigned including, but not necessarily limited to, the following:
Assign work to and check the work of assigned support employees.
Operate a vehicle for service calls.
Assist in such cleaning duties as sweeping, dust mopping, and vacuuming of hard surface and carpeted floors.
Minimum Requirements
One year of satisfactory experience or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience in repair methods, equipment, and tools of the various building trades is necessary.
Possession of a valid Michigan vehicles operator's license(s) is necessary at the time of hire.
Supply own tools.
Frequent lifting of less than 25 pounds and occasional lifting of over 75 pounds is required.
