Position Summary

The Department of Physiology at Michigan State University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure track faculty position. We anticipate an appointment at the Assistant Professor level, but highly qualified applicants at the Associate Professor level will also be considered. The ideal applicant's research will utilize state-of-the-art techniques and model systems to study neurobiology in health and disease. We are particularly interested in applicants whose research complements existing strengths in the Physiology Department in areas such as gut-brain axis signaling, the peripheral nervous system, motivated behaviors, sensory neurobiology, immunology, metabolism and sex differences. The ideal applicant will be an outstanding investigator with exceptional promise, a proven record of research achievement, and the ability to attract funding in their research area, who will contribute to the highly interactive and collaborative Department of Physiology (http://www.psl.msu.edu) at MSU.

The successful applicant must establish and maintain a vigorous, extramurally funded research program in their area of expertise, and contribute to teaching undergraduate, graduate, and/or professional students associated with the Department of Physiology. Applicants must hold a PhD, DO, MD, DVM or equivalent degree, with postdoctoral experience and a strong record of research productivity. Candidates must have a track record of lead author publications in peer-reviewed journals and plans for establishing an independent research program. Evidence of ability to obtain stage-appropriate funding is desired. Laboratory space, start-up funds, and salary will be competitive and commensurate with academic rank and experience.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Human Medicine, Neuroscience

Minimum Requirements
  • A PhD, DO, MD, DVM or equivalent degree, with postdoctoral experience and a strong record of research productivity.

Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, three-page statement of research accomplishments, goals for their independent research program, a one-page teaching statement, a statement on diversity, equity and inclusion, up to five relevant reprints, the names of three references, and three reference letters.
