Position Summary

The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology and the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates demonstrating a strong track record of publication and extramural funding may be considered for the rank of Associate Professor. Ideal applicants will have expertise in drugs, drug targets or toxicants affecting the neuroimmune system. Successful applicants will join a departmental faculty of 40 faculty with pharmacology/toxicology expertise in the fields of aging, cancer, cardiovascular research, computation and genomics, drug discovery, environmental toxicology, gastrointestinal/genitourinary research, immune cell pathology, liver pathology, and neuroscience. Successful candidates will be expected to develop a successful independent research program funded by extramural sources. Successful candidates would also be expected to participate in advising, mentoring, and teaching graduate students and preclinical training of medical students.

Michigan State University has outstanding department, college and university-wide basic and translational research programs that provide opportunity for collaborative research. This includes the faculty of many basic science and clinical departments in the College of Osteopathic Medicine, College of Human Medicine, and College of Veterinary Medicine. Additional opportunities for collaboration exist with investigators at the Applied Immunology Center for Education and Research, Institute for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering, Precision Health, and a new Center of Excellence in Imaging and Image-Guided Therapies. Core facilities include advanced microscopy, proteomics, statistics, high-performance computing, genomics, and flow cytometry. Support is available for grant writing, locating external funding resources, and processing grant submissions pre- and post-approval. Numerous internal funding opportunities are available to support emerging research programs. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to participate in graduate education programs, including the BioMolecular Science and Comparative Medicine and Integrative Biology programs. The College of Osteopathic Medicine has active faculty development and mentorship programs to facilitate career progression.
