What You Will Do:

The Model Based Design Principal Engineer, GATORWORKS 6th Gen Digital Transformation will play a key role in advancing the Program’s capability by executing the Digital for 6th Gen (D6G) Roadmap to mature new digital solutions that reimagine our core business processes so we can deliver world-class propulsion programs faster and more efficiently than our competition. We are seeking a highly collaborative individual to support our Digital Enterprise capability demonstration team to further strengthen digital transformation throughout Military Programs.

GATORWORKS was established to meet an ambitious and urgent goal: To cut the cost and lead-time of P&W Technology and Product Development. We have already demonstrated that it is possible to achieve this objective through a combination of Agile practices, Dedicated teams, Digital Technology, and Innovative thinking.

To accomplish these goals, we are building an Agile, Empowered, and High performing cross functional team to demonstrate multiple model-based capabilities on a program to further digitize development. The MB-Design Engineer will work alongside various Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from the requirements phase through design to manufacturing and inspection to validation all leveraging the latest digital capabilities to solve problems.

As the Capability Demonstration Model Based Design Engineer, you will be a key member in an Agile team implementing our digital future state alongside P&Ws best engineers. This role will require the ability to interact with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders to execute the digital roadmap and will require you to bridge across disciplines performing cross functional work to ensure the team delivers on its commitments.

The position will report to the GATORWORKS Director, 6th Gen Digital Strategy. This hybrid role is based in East Hartford, CT. On-site work is expected 3 days a week initially and is expected to increase during the first year.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Identify Model Based Design and Analysis requirements to implement digital thread between Model Based Engineering (MBE) disciplines.

  • Perform FEA to validate the structural, thermal, or aerodynamic performance of components and systems.

  • Pre-process design data to prepare FEA jobs to High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters and manage job execution.

  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations for stakeholders, highlighting key findings and potential improvements.

  • Collaborate with design and CIPT to provide insights and recommendations based on analysis results.

  • Work on integrations between PLM and CAD platforms and other enterprise systems (including MBSE, ERP, MES) to enable end-to-end data connectivity across the Digital Enterprise.

  • Work in an Agile Cross-functional environment to deliver on sprint and increment commitments.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 8+ years’ experience in Aerospace or Automotive industries are preferred, or, advanced degree with 5+ years’ years’ experience in Aerospace or Automotive industries are preferred.

  • Availability to travel ( 4 trips per year to attend Program Increment Planning events) to East Hartford.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, and strong interpersonal skills to be successful in an Agile team setting.

  • Demonstrated experience working with Teamcenter NX for model preparation and integration with FEA tools.

  • Experience managing, supporting, using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Simulation Lifecycle Management platforms to manage, track and optimize design workflows.

  • High Level Proficiency using FEA software for Aero/Thermal/Structural such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar.

  • Familiarity with pre-processing design data, submitting FEA jobs to HPC clusters, and post-processing results.

  • Prior experience with Multidisciplinary Design Analysis and Optimization (MDAO) is a plus.

  • Experience in CAD interoperable file formats (STEP 242, QIF, JT).

  • Previous CIPT, IPT or Systems integration experience.

  • Experience leading continuous improvement processes and Agile program structures.

  • Existing security clearance.

Minimum Program Qualifications​

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
