Cleveland Clinic Non Certified Ophthalmic Assistant ($2,500 Sign-On Bonus Eligible) in East Cleveland, Ohio

We have an opening for a full-time Non-Certified Ophthalmic Assistant. We work together as a team to provide world-class care for our patients. Our Cole Eye team provides the highest quality vision and surgical care in a compassionate, attentive, and efficient environment. Our mission is to protect and improve our patient's eyesight by providing the top medical and surgical care possible. Your primary duties will include:

  • Stocking, maintenance, and other related duties as assigned, including maintaining exam rooms, equipment, and supplies.

  • Receiving and preparing patients for examination or treatment, under the direction of a supervisor or physician.

  • Performing routine screening tests.

  • Documenting patient information in the patient's medical record.

The ideal future caregiver is someone who:

  • Has a minimum of 1-year of experience in ophthalmology or optical.

  • Uses communication strategies to achieve desirable outcomes.

  • Is empathetic to the needs and concerns of patients.

  • Can work in a fast-paced environment and be an effective and positive member of our collaborative team.

  • Is a detail-oriented professional, having excellent communication skills, a friendly and outgoing personality, and a willingness to learn.

This field has many opportunities for advancement into a certified role. You can begin your career as an ophthalmic assistant/Non-Certified Assistant and through experience, education, and testing advance to a certified ophthalmic technician, then a certified ophthalmic medical technologist.

Responsibilities:

  • Under direction of supervisor or physician receives and prepares patients for examination or treatment.

  • May perform routine screening tests.

  • Documents patient information in the patient medical record.

  • Performs stocking, maintenance and other duties as assigned, including maintaining exam rooms, equipment and supplies.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

Certifications:

  • None required.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of one year experience in an ophthalmic setting providing direct patient care.

  • Additional formal education or training in ophthalmology may substitute for some or all of the stated experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity to operate office equipment and PC.

  • Ability to lift and transport up to 25 pounds.

  • May require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting.

  • Visual acuity, including the ability to distinguish colors.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
