Position Summary

Provides patients, family members and Hospital staff emotional, pastoral, spiritual and sacramental support and guidance to assist them through periods of stress, crisis or anxiety. Visits assigned patients and accepts referrals; documents care and support provided and participates in educational programs. May offer prayer or reflection from the patients life experience. Assists patients to understand more fully life's events as they relate to their spiritual and emotional well-being.

Job Responsibilities

  • Visits newly admitted patients and anyone referred to them. During their visit they assess the religious, spiritual and emotional needs of the patient. This is done within the policies of the Pastoral Care Department. Chaplains also provided to the patient the religious, spiritual, sacramental and emotional support needed.
  • Assists patients and families at times of crisis and interacts courteously and compassionately with patients, family/significant others, and staff
  • Initiates and maintains communication with area clergy through notification of a parishioners admission and discharge referrals to appropriate religious personnel

Education/Experience

  • Completion of a curriculum of theological classes and displays skills and competencies in pastoral care.
  • A Bachelors Degree or equivalent in Theology, religious studies, education, counseling or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) training preferred.
  • In good standing with the Church by way of ecclesiastical endorsement.
