About the Port of Boston

Cargo: The Port of Boston is an economic engine fueling the New England regional economy and Conley Terminal is New England’s only full-service container terminal, connecting more than 2,500 businesses to the world, with services to Asia, North Europe and South America. With $850 million in infrastructure upgrades, including a deepened Boston Harbor, ample berth capacity and new ship-to-shore cranes, the Port of Boston can serve 12,000 – 15,000 TEU vessels. As the owner and operator of Conley Terminal, Massport provides a unique value proposition that includes a strong relationship with the ILA and a keen focus on delivering customer satisfaction.

Cruise: Flynn Cruiseport Boston, owned and operated by the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) opened in 1986 and welcomed 13 cruise ships and 11,723 passengers in its first season. This season, Massport expects to welcome 25 different cruise brands, 8 homeported ships, and nearly 170 vessels offering memorable getaways conveniently out of Boston to Bermuda, the Canada/New England coastline, and select sailings to Europe, the Caribbean, and Iceland/Greenland.

ABOUT YOU

Reporting to the CEO, the Port Director leads and directs all business planning, strategic initiatives, business development, marketing, financial management, and the safety and security and day-to-day oversight of Massport’s Maritime Division. Drives major projects and complex coordination of key stakeholders to advance the Authority’s short and long-term goals, objectives and the Maritime mission.

The Port Director’s primary accountabilities include:

  • Strategic Leadership of the Maritime Division

  • Advising Massport’s Board and CEO/Executive Director

  • Business Development Efforts

  • Financial Management and Analysis

  • General Administration and Management

  • Safety and Security

  • Strategic Staff Management

  • External Stakeholder Engagement

    The Port Director currently has four direct reports including:

  • Chief Administrative Officer, Maritime

  • Director, Maritime Security

  • Deputy Port Director, Operations

  • Executive Assistant

WHAT YOU OFFER

Required Qualifications & Experience: Ten to fifteen years’ executive level experience in business administration or management in either private sector marine transportation or in a port authority environment. Demonstrated skills in budget administration or management required. Previous senior level managerial experience in the port industry with demonstrated skills leading professional level teams is required. Eligibility to work in the U.S. without restrictions is required.

Minimum Education Required: Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree preferred.
