Cornell Cooperative Extension 4H Youth Development Educator - E Aurora, NY in E Aurora, New York
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Erie County has an opening for part time 4-H Youth Development Educator based from the E. Aurora, NY office.
The Educator will serve as a member of the 4-H Youth Development team to assist with delivery and evaluation of the 4-H Youth Development programs with the goal of promoting thriving in young people ages 5-18 across Erie County. Educator will be responsible for coordinating and delivering program objectives and plans in all areas of 4-H Youth Development programming with emphasis on: club management, volunteer management and training, Agriculture in the Classroom, and county-wide events such as 4-H Public Presentations, and the Erie County Fair Youth Development Building. Educator will also be responsible for connecting volunteers and community partners to 4-H resources, emphasizing science and technology, healthy lifestyles, life skills, workforce preparation, community service, youth voice, and leadership.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor’s degree or Equivalent Education. (Associate Degree plus 2 years transferrable relevant evidencebased research experience may substitute).• Experience relevant to the role of the position. • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position. • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends.• Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in English.• Proficiency with Windows-based software including use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel.• Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences with cultural humility.• Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively with advisory boards and committees, community and funding partners.• Ability to initiate, plan, organize, implement, and evaluate informal educational programs. • Ability to effectively participate in professional team efforts.• Ability to communicate effectively through verbal, written and visual channels using traditional methods and educational tools, as well as electronic technology (e.g., video, audio, computers, etc.).• Ability to identify and utilize program resources from the organization and the community.• Ability to relate effectively to co-workers, advisors, community, and professional leaders.• Ability to plan and organize personal work responsibilities according to priorities developed with the immediate supervisor.• Ability to work in a typical office environment which may include lifting, moving, and/or transporting office supplies, work related materials, and equipment with or without accommodation. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Coursework in Education, Agriculture, and/or Human/Youth Development.• Experience with Cooperative Extension or other similar educational organizations.• Experience in guiding and collaborating with volunteers. • Ability to identify and develop volunteer leadership.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Program Delivery - 75%• Deliver high quality 4-H Youth Development educational programs and events that address local, regional, and statewide 4-H Youth Development programming priorities with emphasis on club management, facilitation of county-wide events such as Public Presentations, Ag in the Classroom, life skills, and workforce preparation, as well as community service and leadership. Events and programs often require involvement of volunteers.• Participate in special events including, but not limited to, 4-H Leader trainings, County Fair, State Fair, 4-H Fundraising, Public Presentations, enrollment campaign, and other extension association activities, as assigned. Includes chaperoning teens at state 4-H events. • Occasionally apply existing subject matter knowledge to create lessons plans to deliver educational program. • Utilize a variety of educational methods which may include direct teaching, group experiences, media, newsletters, electronic technology, internet, and distance learning to deliver program.• Serve as subject matter resource.• Foster acceptance of program, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs, with strong consideration for the needs and experiences of all program participants. • Provide educational program efforts via mass media including contributing articles to 4-H newsletter, utilizing emails, phone messages, and website postings. • Interact with program participants representing CCE in a professional manner at all times.• Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land grant universities in a professional manner as part of program delivery.
Program Evaluation - 5%• Implement program evaluation as designed.• Interact with program participants, association staff, program committees, county/community leaders, and other key stakeholders to collect evaluation data for improving programs.• Assist in analyzing collected program evaluation data for reporting and program improvement purposes using standard, established policy, procedure, and methods. • Communicate evaluation results and findings.
Administrative Direction - 5%• Assist with identifying activities and resources necessary to implement initiatives and projects.• Provide supervisor with program related information to assist the budget development process.• May provide input to planning budget based on program feasibility needs and assist in identifying opportunities for 4-H fund development activities.
Administrative Management - 5%• Assist in identifying and recommending program needs (i.e., program supplies and materials).• Assist in solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise within the 4-H Youth Development program utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.• Assist with ensuring volunteer direction and management procedures are followed according to established policies and procedures by providing guidance, leadership, and resources for volunteers and volunteer leaders including recruitment, screening, orientation, training, evaluation, and management.
Administrative Coordination/Operation - 5%• Apply existing subject matter knowledge to coordinate, compile, assemble, and organize program resources and program and teaching materials.• Coordinate identified administrative aspects of 4-H programming to include, but not be limited to: ordering and inventory of supplies and marketing of 4-H Programs.• Coordinate, schedule, and support the training and work of 4-H volunteers for implementing education events related to established program priorities.• Assist with maintaining communication with constituents and the community through variety of methods such as contributing educational articles to program newsletters, e-mails, electronic technology, internet, social media, and website postings.• Assist with coordination of marketing and promotion of 4-H Youth Development through public relation initiatives and networking/collaborating with government, economic, educational, and other organizations.• Assist in utilizing effective marketing strategies in the promotion of programming efforts to include, but not limited to: print media, news media, social media, and multi-media efforts.• Process, track, and maintain event and program registration and monies as per established policy. • Prepare and receive event, program related invoices, and prepare documentation for payment.• Collect and reconcile event and program receipts and monies. Prepare program expense reports.• Act as contact for Volunteers and Volunteer Leaders within the County.• Provide information as requested to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others, as necessary.• Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts. • Provide information as requested to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others, as necessary.• Submit program related expense receipts in a timely manner per established policy and procedure.• Ensure complete confidentiality of all sensitive information regarding all staff, volunteers, participants, etc. at all times. • Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures. • Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected, accessed, and/or maintained.• Transport self, program participants, volunteers, and/or program materials/resources as necessary as part of performing position responsibilities.
Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%• In cooperation with the Supervisor, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.• Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and trainings as scheduled/required. • Pursue personal growth through expanding personal knowledge of the total organization and through updating techniques and technical skills relating to the position.• Carry out assignments and other duties as assigned by supervisor, including but not limited to local fairs, community activities, etc. • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and other duties as assigned. • Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.

POSITION DETAILS
Expected Weekly Hours: 35 hours per week
Hourly Wage: $21.00 to $21.50 per hour, commensurate with experience
