THE POSITION Sullivan County Children & Youth is seeking a professional individual to join our casework team.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK A newly hired CYS caseworker will work with a supervisor for a 60-day probationary period and must complete a 10-week curriculum consisting of both classroom and fieldwork.  The employee will learn about the network of community resources, complete site visits and will work with senior casework staff.

Caseworkers are responsible for ensuring the safety, permanency and well-being of the children in the county.  Responsibilities include providing casework and counseling services to client children and their families.  This includes but is not limited to assessing and investigating allegations of abuse and neglect; referring the child and family for the appropriate services and ensure families are utilizing resources appropriately; properly complete applicable forms and paperwork documenting case activity as established by regulations; prepare and provide testimony in court; participate in a variety of meetings; and abide by the appropriate policies, procedures, laws and regulations pertaining to child welfare.  In this position, a caseworker will work collaboratively with educators, medical personnel, law enforcement, courts and other professionals to ensure children's safety.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment. Work hours are 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. After-hours on-call rotation schedule and travel is required (evening and weekends). You will receive further communication regarding this position via email. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

Other Requirements: PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title. Hiring preference for this vacancy will be given to candidates who live within Sullivan County.  If no eligible candidates who live within Sullivan County apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties will be considered. You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements: This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.

Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Chi d Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
