Position Summary:

Strata Solar Services is currently seeking a full-time Performance Engineer join our Performance Analytics team, which isresponsible for optimizing the energy output of our operating fleet of solar power plants through monthly reporting, conductingperformance analyses, and using industry research and PV system design principals to drive models.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

PV System Performance Evaluation and Troubleshooting:

o Apply expertise about potential PV system component failure, potential modeling issues, and site design totroubleshoot current PV systems operating below expected levels of production.o Contribute to ongoing research efforts to improve modeling of PV systems throughout their lifetime.o Calculate actual system loss (voltage drop, electrical effect, DC/AC wiring loss, transformer loss, ancillaryservices loss) and system availability from data collected by SCADA as needed.o Guide PV system-based updates to internal performance analytics models such as the expected energymodel, the forecasting model, and DC relative health report.o Complete ad hoc performance investigations as requested from others within the company as well ascustomer entities.

Power Plant Performance Reporting:

o Conduct monthly PV system weather-adjusted and outage-adjusted expected energy modeling and reportingthrough an internal Python-based model.o Participate on calls with customers answering questions on PV system performance and recommendingpossible next steps for performance investigation.o Design data visuals and written reports for audiences ranging from technical to management personnel.o Work with data analyst to develop and implement more intelligent data cleaning and analyses tools tostreamline performance model processes.

 Performance Engineering: System Optimization and Smart Device Configuration Designo Inverter configuration design to extend equipment lifetime and improve system efficiency: Reactive power/dynamic power factor control design. Voltage/frequency protection design. AC power output optimizationdesign.

Plant Controller:

Open-loop AC power output settings design. Power ramp rate design and troubleshoot.Voltage control configuration design.o Perform advanced data analytics with utility billing data and plant operation data to optimize the solar farmoperations by Pmax adjustment and power factor adjustment.

 Performance Testing Support (as needed)o Evaluate utility-scale PV systems modeled/measured performance ratios using PVSyst, linear regressionmodels such ASTM E2848, and other mathematical data analytics.o Prepare test reports and give technical presentations on the testing results to the system owner and utilitycompanies.

Field Testing and Troubleshooting Support: (as needed)

o Coordinate collection of and review of field testing data such as PV array infrared imaging and open-circuitvoltage testing to identify modules with performance issues or component failure.o Identify the fault patterns based on the electrical characteristics (I-V Curve, open-circuit voltage, hotspot,potential short-circuit) and use as defect evidence in potential warranty claims.


Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

 Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, materials science, applied mathematics, or similar required At least two years of experience in energy modeling required Demonstrated ability to model expected system output for utility-scale PV projects through PVsyst, PVlib, or similarsoftware highly preferred Masters in Electrical Engineering degree or comparable work experience highly preferred Experience with running Python scripts, R scripts, or similar highly preferred Ability to interact with various outside parties professionally via telephone and in person required Strong organizational skills necessary to document and track issues from inception to resolution Outstanding problem solving skills with the ability to analyze situations and recommend solutions Ability to work in a team environment

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

Work is performed in an office environment and in the field. Must be able to sit,stand, bend, twist and lift up to 20 pounds.
