Southern Company Manufacturing Senior Team Lead (Aluminum/Fabrication) in Durham, North Carolina

Summary:

The Senior Team Leader/Cell Lead will be responsible for the personnel and product in their Cell/Project. They will handle personnel training, quality, safety and continuous improvement initiatives in their area. Product and personnel status will be measured and reported on to the production supervisor. The Senior Team Lead/Cell Lead are responsible to monitor and manage the completion of shop orders and operations as determined by the part number routing, ensuring operations are complete on time and at or under the allotted man hours. They actively review that their cells are in safe working order identifying areas of improvement. They also review quality data to ensure that manufacturing quality is improving and that the MoM and work instructions are updated to reflect corrective actions.

Minimum Qualifications: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills):

  • High School Diploma, GED, or Equivalent.

  • 2 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • 2 years of MIG Aluminum Welding.

  • Able to manage multiple tasks concurrently.

  • Able to properly manage time and projects.

  • Ability to meet project schedules and maintain contingency plans.

  • Understand workflows in production and prioritize work.

  • Ability to understand KPI’s/Metrics.

  • Able to lead 5S/Kaizen/Lean events to eliminate waste.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation – such as schematics, assembly drawings, operational Manuals, safety rules, and standardized work instructions.

  • Proficient in computers and software

  • Understands how to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.

  • Assist in training and development of Technicians/Team Leads.

  • Understands chain of command and where to go to get questions answered .

  • Use of ERP in a manufacturing environment

  • Root cause analysis and Corrective Action

  • Interface with engineering to ensure design questions or clarifications are answered quickly and clearly to minimize production delays.

  • Effective problem solving. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cell/Team leaders will be responsible for as many as 15 operators and all Shop Orders within their departments Work Centers .

  • Sets the pace of work within cell utilizing IFS routings and data to determine if expectations are met.

  • Keeps operators on task.

  • Reviews Part Number routings before beginning work reporting issues to Production Supervisor

  • Accurately reports schedule – on time/late/ahead of schedule.

  • Requests overtime or 2nd shift assistance as necessary

  • Reports parts shortages to material handlers

  • Responsible for keeping manufacturing traveler and Bus BoM/Kanban usage updated and filling in appropriate location upon job completion.

  • review worked/hours allocated to jobs.

  • Responsible for safety within cell and improvement initiatives

  • Responsible for quality of product leaving cell.

  • Checks IFS for hours logging errors and has them corrected.

  • Executes Change Requests on jobs within cell.

  • Drives efficiency by ensuring team members under their leadership have all the parts and information needed to meet Production goals.

  • Proactively flag problems that effect on-time delivery and/or quality before goals are missed.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment:

This position will require standing, stooping, bending, and limited lifting of up to 50lbs.

Exposure to weather, extreme heat or cold, noise intensity level, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, wet and/or humid, vibration, proximity to moving mechanical parts.
