Junior Lab Engineer

Our client is hiring for a Junior Lab Engineer (RTP, NC 2nd Shift 3PM to Midnight) for our team that maintains labs worldwide. These labs are used by Technical Services to setup equipment and software to recreate and debug issues for all our client's customers and constitute a critical central component for delivering world-class service to all customers. You will be installing new devices & equipment in the Lab which houses test beds for global enterprise clients. You will work “Cases” from a queue, requested by senior Engineers who are working directly with those clients. This could mean standing up a new environment, adding to an existing environment, or troubleshooting performance issues. Don’t wait… apply today!

Job Description

To do this, you will need a very strong understanding of Layer 1 & 2 Networking, and how to install, connect and troubleshoot a variety of devices and equipment.

  • Foundational networking knowledge & experience, including network topologies & troubleshooting.

  • Performing basic router and switching configuration tasks

  • Use networking test tools such as IXIA or Spirent.

  • VLAN configuration

  • Use VMware

  • Configuring and troubleshooting with Catalyst, Nexus and XR products

  • Utilize Packet Tracer

Core Responsibilities:

  • Layer 1, 2 setup up & configuration of routers, switches and network segments based on provided network topologies.

  • Reading network topology and building small networks using routers and switches

  • Downloading & installing of OS software/device images

  • Troubleshooting of technical problems that may be encountered while working cases.

  • Installing new devices & equipment in the lab

  • Research technical solutionsTechnical Skills & Experience:

  • Foundational networking knowledge & experience, including network topologies & troubleshooting, Programming language understanding.

  • Performing basic router and switching configuration tasks

  • Good verbal and written communication

  • Ability to prioritize tasks & keep yourself organized.

  • Enjoys working in a team environment.

  • Strong sense of ownership, & desire to complete work on time.

  • Hard working

  • Solid troubleshooting skills & methodologies

  • Motivated, self-starter with the desire for continuous learning

  • Excited by technology

  • Ability to work up to 6 feet overhead using a ladder.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs without assistance.
