We’re looking for the next generation of talented undergraduates to join our team for an unforgettable 10-week internship. As one of our interns, you will gain a comprehensive introduction to our business. You’ll be assigned to a team and work on real-life projects that bring our products and services to life. On the job training and professional development will be provided to enable you to contribute to the business. You’ll also have direct access to a senior member of the team, as each intern will be mentored to help you make the most of the 10-week program.

What Does the Internship Program Offer?

Successful candidates will spend 10 weeks working with our technology teams.

You will be paid for the duration of your internship. The internship begins on Monday, June 3rd and ends Friday, August 8th.

Job Description

As a Cloud Engineering intern, you will have the opportunity to learn about the culture of DevOps which includes the DevOps philosophy, practices and tooling. Be at the forefront of bringing next-generation identity and security solutions to one of the world's largest education organizations. As a key member of our team, you will engineer and provide high-level support for Pearson's internal identity platforms, including Microsoft Active Directory, and other cutting-edge identity tools/platforms. Your primary focus will be on our cloud infrastructure, ensuring seamless and secure operations. An ideal fit for this role would be someone who can thrive in a fast-paced environment and is willing to be assertive and work hard to take on challenges as they arise.

You may also be placed on another Cloud Engineering team that focuses on observability. Members of the observability team use their DevOps skills to build and maintain key observability platforms that ensure system reliability across Pearson products. In this role, you will gain valuable hands-on experience working with a wide variety of DevOps tools, engineering solutions in AWS Cloud, GitHub, and various observability platforms.

You will be able to indicate your area of interest during the initial interview.

What do the 10 weeks involve?

You develop knowledge of building and maintaining infrastructure in Amazon Web Services (AWS) using a popular infrastructure as code (IaC) tool called Terraform. You will also learn about how to build CI/CD pipelines and configure and support monitoring tools that are needed to understand the health of the applications we support. You will also learn agile standards and processes. The manager will distribute your assignments, and you will also have a mentor that will help you with your assignments. You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse global team of engineers.

With your knowledge of a programming language, you will be able to automate repetitive tasks. You will also be expected to gain knowledge of the Linux operating system, Git (Bitbucket), GitHub, Jenkins, Docker, and the services of AWS. You will have the opportunity to take a certification test before the end of your internship.

Minimum Requirements

  • We look for Students pursuing a STEM degree (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) with Software Development subjects or relevant work experience. We also look for Students pursuing a degree in computer science, software engineering, information security, engineering or technology.

  • Students should also have a basic understanding of a programming language such as Python, Java, C++, Node.js or Ruby.

  • Knowledge of a version source control tool such as Git.

  • Students should be well-rounded and eager to take on new challenges. Flexibility is important, as you will be joining a versatile and agile team.

  • Graduation date of May 2026.

  • Must be able to work hybrid; in-person/remote at our Durham office for the entire 10-weeks.
