Hyatt Bartender in DURHAM, North Carolina

Description:

JOB SCOPE:

Dynamic bartender will be responsible for preparation and service of quality beverages for customers, cashiering functions, and general inventory control, and bar/storage area cleanliness. Role will have assigned shifts in multiple outlets within the hotel.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

Supplying Tasks (30%)

· Requisition of supplies to maintain par stock

· Stock up the shelves, coolers, and counter area for the service period

· Ensure proper storage of all service items

· Replenish all service items: paper items, general supplies, beverage, food and stewarding supplies

· Ensure that soda and beer service is constantly replenished during shift

· Report to the manager on duty any equipment shortage or problems

· Load and unload dishwasher with glassware, maintain dishwasher cleanliness

· Fill the ice bins

· Retrieve food from kitchen when needed

· Label and date all bar items (juices, syrups, fruit, open wines, etc.)

· Maintain a clean and organized workspace to ensure that others can locate resources or products as needed

Service Tasks (45%)

· Greet patrons proactively and with a smile

· Maintain knowledge of food and beverage offerings in order to make appropriate recommendations

· Prepare quality, made-to-order cocktails and other beverages

· Ensure area is maintained – equipment and service are to have inviting, welcoming facility

· Clean and reset bar tables for service

· Rotate floor shifts amongst all bar team members, step in as support for other team members when needed

· Break down and set up bar area with all bar supplies according to opening and closing checklists

· Prepare mise-en-place daily, each in accordance to the recipes and the direction provided

· Ensure sufficient mise-en-place of station for a successful shift

· Ensure proper food and beverage presentation by following set standards at all times

· Workstation must be maintained clean at all times

· Ensure sanitary measures are complied with at all times during preparation of all items

· Take orders from the guests at the bar and record them on checks

· Prepare all beverage and food orders for guests

· Maintain bar area, to be wiped down and cleaned

· Follows health, safety and sanitation guidelines for all products

· Prepares recipe batches according to house specs

· Communicate any 86’d items to managers and servers

· Clean all glassware

· Bus tables, as needed

· Adhere to Unscripted/Hyatt serving standards and policies

· Other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Banking Tasks (20%)

· Pick up cash bank at the beginning of every shift, acquire change from accounting as needed

· Ring up the checks and post all checks in MICROS

· Account for any promotional, spill, void, or comp items in the POS system; manage waste

· Verifies guest room numbers before closing the checks and before the guest leaves

· Verifies mode of payment and receives clearance on credit card purchases before closing the check

· Prepare and close the bill (check) for guests

· Close bar and run appropriate reports

· Balance cash receipts at the end of shift and prepare the recap sheets

· Drop off cash bank at the end of each shift at the safety box by the front office

Training (5%)

· Assists with new employee training by positively reinforcing successful performance and coaching as needed

· Attends training sessions, staff meetings, or other meetings as scheduled

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Essential:

· Passion for hospitality

· Professional bartending skills (craft cocktail knowledge, ingredient preparation)

· Food and beverage operations knowledge

· Exceptional customer service and teamwork skills

· Knowledge of classic and modern mixed drinks, garnishes and glassware

· Knowledge about alcohol beverages

· Knowledge of computerized register, preferably MICROS, and terminal

· A positive and pleasant personality, patience

· Fluent in English

· Ability to compute basic math functions; blind drop on drawer required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· LANGUAGE SKILLS : Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate effectively and professionally with other business departments, guests, and vendors

· Ability to diplomatically deal with difficult situations and people, while exhibiting a consistent level of professionalism

Physical Abilities

· Able to lift, push, pull, and carry in excess of 50 pounds

· Able to stand for a long period of time

· Able to go up and down stairs regularly

Self-Efficacy

· Maintains calm exterior presence during periods of high volume or unusual events to maintain a clean and comfortable guest environment

· Ability to understand and carry out oral and/or written instructions and request clarification where needed

· Anticipates customer and outlet needs by constantly evaluating environment and customers for clues

· Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality

· Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others

· Strong interpersonal skills

· Communicates information to Supervisor so that the team can respond as necessary to create a welcoming guest environment

Service Orientation

· Provides quality beverages and food products consistently for all customers by adhering to all recipe standards

· Fluency in English
