Title:Family Educator

Grade: E72 – E7DNon-Exempt:X_

Reports to:Family Services Manager

Basic Function or Position Summary:

Facilitates positive child and family outcomes that fosters school success and movement towards economic and social self sufficiency. Empowers families as their child’s primary educator and utilization of the home as a learning environment. Supports agency mission by performing the following job duties.Hours per week 35: Monday - Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm. Salary $18.27 - $22.49

Requirements

Position Responsibilities and Specific Duties:

• Establish effective partnerships with families.

• Act as a liaison between home, school, and community.

• Implement curriculums and various assessment tools for positive child outcomes, including family scales and matrices.

• Monitor, assess and encourage customer progress.

• Role model positive skills and educator role for families.

• Implements a strength based –family development and financial social work model.

• Implements family strategies that foster outcomes and movement along COI continuums of care that promotes economic security and asset based strategies

• Builds short and long term goals for families and children from the Navigation Guide using the Family Development Plan

• Plan and implement home-based learning experiences that ensure effective implementation of the home visiting curriculum and promote children’s progress across the standards described in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Ages Birth to Five, including for children with disabilities and dual language learners, as appropriate, and to build respectful, culturally responsive, and trusting relationships with families.

• Develop and implement intervention logs to provide individualized strategies for child and family.

• Provide services to pregnant women though home visits by providing ongoing access/referrals to family members based on assessment need that include but not limited to breastfeeding, labor & delivery process, fetal development, health & nutrition, postpartum health, family planning, nurturing and bonding, signs of maternal depression, father’s engagement, domestic violence, emergency shelter, health risks, lead exposure/poisoning, parenting classes, and community health resources.

• Implement strategies and activities that collaborate with families to support successful transitions.

• Assist with planning and facilitation of community events and activities.

• Follow policies, procedures and protocols.

• Maintain current knowledge of and complies with regulatory requirements.

• Participate in recruitment and enrollment process.

• Notifies supervisor following service area procedure regarding customer complaints.

• Maintain awareness of community resources; assist customers to locate, navigate and utilize community resources and services.

• Utilizes CAPTAIN,Teacher Strategies Gold, Google Docs, and other agency approved systems for tracking and maintaining all child/family records along with documentation of individual family contacts.

• Immediately report and concern regarding child abuse/neglect in accordance with service area policies and procedures.

• Attend meetings and committees as designated.

• Create and maintain ASPIRE account to track ongoing professional development.

• Collect and report in-kind.

• Promote agency mission.

• Maintain confidentiality and complies with the code of ethics.

• Maintain consistent professional customer service.

• Job performance incorporates integrated service delivery model while promoting self-sufficiency.

• Promote asset based thinking.

• Other duties as designated by supervisor.

A. Internal: Family Services Manager, Multi-Disciplinary Team, Early Care & Education Management Team, and staff.

B. External: Community Partners, Service Agencies, Customers

Organizational Responsibilities:

Knowledge, Skills Required:

• Education

o High school diploma and CDA credential, or o Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood, Child Development, Family Sciences, Social Work, Counseling, Human Services or Adult Education

• NYS State Education Department Certification preferred

• Strong organizational skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to establish and maintain a positive relationship with people of diverse backgrounds.

• Computer skills.

• Bilingual (Spanish) preferred

Special Requirements, if any:

• Must obtain Home Visitor CDA credential within 18 months if family services course work is not evident on transcript.

• Valid Driver’s license

• Reliable transportation to travel throughout the county

• Flexibility in work schedule

• Must be able to maintain substantial, individual supervision of children and youth

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation

• Completes all OCFS requirements.

• Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing required: subject to random drug and alcohol testing for cause.

• Must be able to provide consistent even tempered customer service at all times

• Works compassionately with diverse population.
