DUTIES: A Chief Water Treatment Plant Operator is an important technical supervisory position involving responsibility for the safe maintenance and efficient operation of a Water Treatment Plant. General direction is received from a Municipal Administrator but wide leeway is allowed for planning work methods and dealing with emergency conditions. Supervision is exercised over the work of operators, trainees and other subordinate personnel. Incumbent may be required to work evenings and/or weekends. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a Water Treatment Plant Certification issued under the provisions of the New York State Department of Health in a grade determined appropriate by the appointing authority at time of application, appointment and during service in this classification and three (3) years of experience as a Water Treatment Plant Operator, one (1) year of which shall have involved supervisory responsibilities. Additional Requirement: Possession, at time of application, appointment and during service in this classification, of a valid NYS Motor Vehicle Operator's license appropriate for the type of vehicles which the employee may operate. NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: At the time of certification, preference in appointment may be given to successful candidates who are legal residents of Town, Village, City or Special District in which the appointment is to be made.
