Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector, Tactical Space Systems Division (TSSD) is seeking a qualified Principal or Senior Principal Systems Engineer for the role of Mission Planning and Scheduling Thread Lead for a Mission Integration program. This position is located on-site in Dulles, VA. Successful candidates for this position will work in a technical thread lead role for the Space Security business area. This position offers the opportunity to work on exciting, cutting-edge programs and new mission areas.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop and review requirements, verification plans, and architecture at all levels of the System

  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints

  • Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into lower level specifications

  • Integrate complex design elements across multiple teams and vendors of the Phoenix program

  • Coordinate with all levels of the program to ensure a comprehensive system design

  • Ensure ground system software teams are developing and design their content that meet the system requirements

  • Provide subject matter expertise for the Thread to the program

  • Brief program leadership, customers, and stakeholders on the on the Thread

  • Engage in formal and informal mentoring to support knowledge transfer and talent development.

  • The development and improvement of on-orbit system-test procedures

  • Performing demonstrations and conducting briefings explaining test procedures and processes

  • Providing on-console operational support and aiding in the investigation and diagnosis of unexpected system signatures

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with the ability to obtain and maintain SCI approval/access

  • Principal Engineer Systems: BS degree in Engineering or related technical field and 5 years of applicable experience, or an MS Degree and 3 years of applicable experience

  • Senior Principal Engineer Systems: Bachelors in Engineering, Physics, or related STEM Degree with 9 years of experience in a related engineering field such as mechanical, electrical, aerospace and/or operations

  • Strong technical background in orbital mechanics/astrodynamics

  • Experience in requirements management, system architecture development, and CONOPs.

  • Experience in RPO mission design and satellite ground software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience coordinating the efforts of diverse stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in any modeling and simulation tools: Cameo, STK, Matlab, AFSIM, Python

  • Have an extensive knowledge of different astrodynamic coordinate frames such as ECI and RIC

Salary Range: $107,300 - $160,900

Salary Range 2: $133,000 - $199,600

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
