Pilot Plant Operator
Situation in organisation (enclose a copy of your organisation chart)
Reports to Lead Recipe Industrialization Engineer.
Role requires direct interaction with Manufacturing, R&D / TS team members on pilot batches of new polymers and / or new formulations for internal / external trials.
Job dimensions ( scope, responsibility)
Perimeter - all technical projects, product sampling, small scale commercial production.
Impact to the business
Critical contributor to the operation and maintenance of the pilot plant in Dublin
Activities (tasks, resource, outcome)
Pilot scale manufacturing of product samples by:
Expert use of existing pilot plant equipment including but not limited to Solvent-based, water-based, and 100% solids formulation and reactions.
Maintenance of the cleanliness and order of the equipment and work space to ensure quality product.
Maintain accurate inventories of raw materials and supplies by:
Recording laboratory usages and pilot batches on relevant information management systems. .
Facilitating the acquisition and delivery of materials from external vendors and other Bostik locations.
Ensuring the identification, control and removal of over-aged or non-conforming materials.
Practice safe work habits in accordance with OSHA, EPA and Bostik EHS guidelines.
Context and environment
The context of this role is that it provides good scale-up support that parallels a manufacturing environment. The environment of this role includes the interface between product development and manufacturing. The role therefore requires knowledge of both the product development process and manufacturing requirements and includes interaction with R&D, Engineering, Quality Services and EHS
Accountabilities (purpose)
Effective performance of this role requires that the Pilot Plant Technician provide:
Accurate and timely production of requested materials in a manner that meets the internal and external customer needs.
Interactive feedback to concerned parties regarding issues found during production activities.
Qualifications / experience required
Technical degree and/or equivalent industry experience. Preferred 3 years minimum experience in a chemical manufacturing environment.
Good written & verbal communication skills.
Good problem solving and observational skills, strong attention to detail.
Open-minded, creative and flexible, ability to adapt to constantly changing circumstances, a team player but able to self-direct.
Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc., familiarity with MRP systems a plus).
Must be physically able to lift up to 60 pounds on a routine basis.
