The ideal candidate will need to have solid understanding of data center IT Infrastructure and data center facilities infrastructure and how the two entities co-exist. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of entry level and middle level operating engineers as well as shift leads within the FOC. The position will help ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels. Qualified candidates must also have experience functioning in a large-scale data center. This skill is essential, as the candidate will assist with aligning the FOC with the larger goals of other business and peer organizations. The Manager of this team will play a role with growing the team to a standard of operational excellence.

The Manager of Facility Operations is someone who must lead by example. The nature of this position encompasses primarily tactical decisions but strategic input and thinking is a requirement. Facility Operations is a high impact customer and vendor-facing environment. The ability to work in a constantly changing environment and the ability to assess critical service affecting situations is an absolute must.

Key job responsibilities

• Work with all Engineers towards departmental and companywide goals

• Hire, supervise and develop FOC Engineers

• Excellent and positive communications skills when working with customers, vendors and employees

• Proven leadership capabilities including the skill to develop and motivate others

• Oversee day to day FOC Operations, escalations, ticketing and communications with customers (internal & external)

• Review metrics to drive performance and ensure the Facility Operations Center meets or exceeds established service level agreements

• Ensure the FOC goes beyond what is required as defined by SLAs

• Update and maintain documentation associated with processes and procedures

• Continuously improve and assist in tools development that will increase productivity and team performance.

A day in the life

Each day as a Manager in the FOC is different due to the Data Center Operations environment and dynamic individuals onshift. Primary focus of a FOC Manager is create a culture of accountability and put performance processes in place such as goals, objectives and roadmaps with frequent reviews ensuring that the team members are on track. You ensure that the people on your team understand how their goals and objectives contribute to the goals of the organization and our mission/tenets.

About the team

The Facility Operations Center (FOC) launched in January 2013 as a singular support team to proactively monitor the life-safety systems and the infrastructure equipment alarms (e.g., chillers, temperature sensors, generators, UPSs, Catcher, switchgear, breakers, PDUs, and ATSs) that provides power and cooling to the platform on a global 24x7x365 basis. We support Data Center Engineer Operations teams who are responsible for the operation of infrastructure equipment. Our role is to ensure that critical alarms are properly Responded to, Acknowledged, Investigated, and Dispatched (RAID). Additionally, the FOC serves as a communications hub during both standard and emergency operations.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer or other type of Engineering; or have 5+ years of relevant work experience

• 3+ years of managerial experience

• 5+ years’ experience working on or maintaining physical infrastructure equipment; strong understanding of control’s systems

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years’ experience working in a large-scale data center

• 3+ years’ experience in a Network Operations Center (NOC)or IT support

• Understands data center IT Infrastructure, data center facilities infrastructure, and how the two entities co-exist, but has proven ability to improve the relationship between the two groups.

• Demonstrated Project management skills
