Amazon Controls Engineer - Data Center Systems Support, EMEA Controls in Dublin, Ireland

Description

AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS)

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

The AWS Data Center Systems team builds services to monitor, control, and alert the data center infrastructure systems. Our services directly contribute to the high availability of AWS data centers and Amazon’s sustainability goals. Teams in Data Center Systems solve complex challenges related to metric ingestion, distributed systems/cloud computing, data visualization, anomaly detection, analytics, and graph networks. The team’s goal is to deliver consistent standards for data center control systems and overall mechanical and electrical design practices across the EMEA region.

We are looking for a Controls Engineer who is passionate about data center operations and automated sequences to increase efficiency and availability. In this role, you will be providing support and developing mechanisms for the next-generation control system design, sequence development, hardware integration, I/O mapping tables, and engineering specifications. You will apply your creative and critical problem-solving skills to develop solutions at scale. Above all, you will care deeply about the customer and delight in creating simple solutions that solve our customers’ biggest challenges.

The ideal candidate will need a broad background in data center or critical environment control systems, IT infrastructure, networking, programming, mechanical facility operations, electrical power monitoring, project management, and demonstrate strong leadership skills.

If you are passionate about the Customer Experience, think and act with a global perspective and have the ability to contribute to sophisticated innovations in the area of building controls and automation initiatives, this is the challenge you are looking for.

Key job responsibilities

• Have deep knowledge of critical infrastructure, building operations, mechanical plant strategies, BMS/EPMS programming concepts, control diagrams, industrial HVAC, electrical line-ups, one-line diagrams, and complex environmental and electrical concepts.

• Lead and facilitate collaboration with multiple teams, including construction, operation, commissioning, software development and sourcing to deliver for customers

• Diagnose and repair complex control system malfunctions requiring extensive knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital control systems and the ability to test and write modifications in multiple system software languages.

• Provide QA/QC oversight of hardware installation, reviewing proposals and programming through the commissioning process

• Experience with data center redundancy, mechanical failure strategies, energy and water conservation practices, and data reporting analytics.

• Knowledge of operating in high-security critical environments while maximizing productivity.

• Innovate new solutions to support team, initiative, and company goals.

• Create and maintain specification documents for global projects.

• Develop and support mechanisms for mechanical and electrical controls products.

• Interact with AWS cloud services and other applications to present, archive, and analyze accumulated data.

• Travel of 50% or more may be required to manage and support project deployments as needed.
