Summary Contract Buy Out Program: This position may be eligible for the Physician / Provider Contract Buy Out Program (CBOP), which authorizes VHA to buy out service contracts (Locum agreements, loan repayments, sign-on bonus contracts, Physician-owned practices) in exchange for employment at certain rural or highly rural facilities for a period of obligated service (minimum 4 years). Responsibilities How applicants will be referred: This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 30, 2024. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications and subsequent cut-off dates are on the 1st of each month. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory ME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage providedContract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting The incumbent spends at least 80% of time in clinic answering consults for outpatient pulmonary care and providing follow-up care as needed. The remainder of the time is spent between interpreting PFTs and sleep studies and answering inpatient and UCC consults. The incumbent establishes professional working relationships with clinical service providers within the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center (CVVAMC) and the Community Base Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), providing telephone and curbside consultation as needed and screening consults that are received for appropriateness prior to scheduling. Pulmonologist duties include: Providing outpatient, inpatient and UCC care for patients that pulmonary consults are placed on Evaluating patients to determine need for further care Prescribing medications within defined scope of practice and conducting medication reconciliation Ordering diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, x-rays, pulmonary function tests and sleep studies. Carrying out health promotion and disease prevention activities Initiating and expediting requests for consultation intra-facility, inter-facility, and community-based care, and scheduling special tests and studies Completing notes on clinic visits and procedures Providing education and counseling of patients and families in preventive care, medical conditions, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs Conducting Compensation and Pension (C&P) Exams as requested by Veterans Benefit Administration (VBA) and Regional Office Assists in meeting Performance Measures for clinical care as indicated by yearly updates Assists in completing monthly/bi-annual peer medical record reviews as part of the Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE)/Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) process Completes all mandatory training requirements timely Assist with other collateral duties as assigned by supervisor, Chief of Medicine, Chief of Staff, or Director Work Schedule: Variable Financial Disclosure Report: Not required Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/30/2024. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical requirements outlined below. Preferred Experience: Outpatient and Inpatient pulmonology care.
