McDermott Principal Pipeline Designer in Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Job Overview:

Perform Design and Engineering process facilities within a specified time while adhering to maintenance, safety, and quality standards, consider constructability, economics, and operation into account during Pre-FEED, FEED, or Detailed Design phases

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Set priorities, organize own work and time to meet objectives, and (as Lead Designer) forecast and plan resource requirements

  • Develop 3D Models and ensure clash free models in coordination with all other disciplines' requirements

  • Ensure design deliverables are completed and issued per project specifications, McDermott, and project Level 2 & 3 procedures, and within agreed schedules and budgets

  • Apply knowledge and/or skills to perform complex work

  • When acting as Lead Designer/Design coordinator, in addition:

  • Lead the design team to complete the tasks within the planned schedule and budget, in accordance with standards, McDermott and project-specific procedures

  • Act as project-based discipline point of contact in communications and meetings with Project Team, Client, vendor/supplier, and/or subcontractor counterparts

  • Ensure that the inter-discipline aspects of the design and deliverables are addressed

  • Support Lead Piping Engineer in measuring progress and productivity

  • Coordinate all activities within own discipline and interface with other disciplines

  • Ensures effective communications among other disciplines and effective management of change

  • Coordinate 3D Model Reviews and ensure Review comments are closed

  • When acting as Designers Coordinator:

  • Coordinate large Design team as Designers Coordinator

  • Coordinate project Design interdisciplinary activities to ensure timely and organized distribution of information amongst all Lead Designers

  • Ensure interfaces and deliverables are clearly identified

  • Support the Department Manager with the Designers appraisals

  • Support the Department Manager with the strategic development of the Designers Teams and provide guidance on Training and Technical Development of the Designers Team

  • Become fully familiar with the Project Scope of Work, specifications, schedule, and inter-discipline requirements, including identifying concerns as early as practicable and taking appropriate initiatives to address the issue

  • Identify changes to scope and promptly raise change notifications in the Change Management System

  • Develop Plant Design and 3D Modelling, Drawings, and input into Plant Layout Narrative in accordance with the agreed Scope of Work, man-hours, and schedule

  • Assist the Lead Piping Engineer in raising technical queries, preparing the piping estimate and job scope changes,

  • Attend (As lead Piping Designer) project Kickoff meetings, Review meetings, Vendor meetings

  • Monitor and coordinate the design team remotely, if required, and can lead a project in a Multi Office Project Execution Environment (MOPEX)

  • Able to identify issues as soon as they arise and follow up with any required corrective action

  • Support and supervision of less-experienced members within the design team

  • Ensure that the work is carried out in accordance with McDermott requirements, Client and Statutory Design Codes, Standards, or Procedures with a particular focus on Health and Safety Policies

  • Is accountable for the performance and results of a team within the Piping Discipline

  • Support Proposals and Studies from a Piping point of view

  • Exchange ideas and information effectively, is able to explain difficult concepts and negotiate with others to adopt a different point of view

  • Impacts the level of service and the team’s ability to meet quality and timeliness objectives

  • Has good leadership and Management skills

  • Is guided by policies, resource requirements, budgets, and the business plan

  • Has developed advanced and specialized expertise within their own area to perform the most complex work

  • Is knowledgeable of other disciplines' work processes

  • Identify and resolve technical, operational, and organizational problems that impact effectiveness

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • 10 years minimum with a major contractor or consultant of which 5+ years of experience in offshore oil and gas

  • Experience as Lead Designer on a small or medium-sized project is essential

  • High School graduate with a diploma in Mechanical Design, Drafting or Mechanical or Civil Engineering in a related discipline or equivalent experience

  • Minimum 12 to 15 years of experience in offshore pipeline drafting

  • Conversant with software e.g. micro-station, AutoCad, GIS etc.

  • Must be aware of alignment sheets, crossing details, tie-in spool etc.

  • Understand and apply bathymetry information

  • Experience for FEED and EPCI project related to offshore projects is must

  • Working experience for ADNOC projects is an added advantage

  • Advanced depth and breadth of expertise in Plant Design and using 3D CAD systems including E3D or SP3D

  • Detailed knowledge of AutoCAD

  • Good knowledge of other engineering disciplines

  • Familiar with the associated local regulatory environment and international and national industry standards and specifications

  • Minimum 1 02 projects experience in E3D/S3D

  • Capable of handling multiple projects

  • Knowledge of QA Systems and a good communicator

  • Knowledgeable in project coordination and execution skills

  • Detailed knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Auto lisp Programming, 3D Modeling, Menu, and/or Macro compilation skills would be an advantage

  • Flexible for business traveling/assignments
