Responsible for operating machine tools to produce precision metal parts.  Produces small batches or large quantities of metal parts. Ensure products meet precise specifications.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce parts.
2. Review blueprints and / or specifications for a job.
3. Shape steel, aluminum, plastic, and other materials.
4. Determine speeds and feeds of materials being cut.
5. Determine how much material to remove.
6. Select proper tools for the job.
7. Position workpiece on the drill press, lathe, or milling machine.
8. Ensure workpiece is properly lubricated and/or cooled.
9. Replace dull cutting tools.
10. Check accuracy of work against blueprints and specifications.
11. Determine cutting path, monitor the accuracy of cuts.
12. Use manual and computer-controlled machinery.

13. Modify programs in order to meet necessary tolerances.

     

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

1. Proficient in Mathematics and Blueprint Reading
2. Ability to take measurements using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc.
3. Ability to successfully operate applicable machinery

4. Written and verbal communication

    

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:  High school diploma or equivalent, secondary education in a applicable field or 1-2 years of experience in a machinist position preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Lifting a maximum of 50 pounds. This job requires extensive amounts of walking, standing, sitting, squatting, kneeling, climbing as required to effectively perform the job.
