The University of Miami Health System at Doral has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Surgical Technician 1- Certified.

The University of Miami Health System will soon open the second phase to our state-of-the-art facility in Downtown Doral that serves as a western hub for our distinguished regional network of ambulatory services. This 160,000 square foot expansion will continue to bring world-class academic medicine, cutting-edge technology, and innovative treatment options to the rapidly growing Doral community. UHealth at Doral will have services through the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, and the Desai Sethi Urology Institute, as well as specialties such as cardiology, endocrinology, otolaryngology, gastroenterology, dermatology, and more. The expansion will provide residents with innovative, specialized medical services in the heart of their community. Once complete, UHealth at Doral will have 8 operating rooms, 3 endoscopy procedure rooms, 33 cancer treatment bays, over 60 multidisciplinary exam rooms, and supporting ancillary services like imaging, lab, and respiratory therapy. UHealth at Doral will open in September, 2024.

The Surgical Technician 1- Certified accounts for the instruments and equipment used during surgical procedures and maintains a sterile field during surgical procedures. The Surgical Technician 1- Certified demonstrates competency and proficiency in the use of equipment and instruments for all surgical procedures that are performed within the department.

Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Functions as a scrub person during operative and other invasive procedures by assembling supplies and equipment required for the procedure; preparing and organizing sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure; performing accounting procedures in concert with the RN circulator; assisting with placement of sterile drapes; providing instruments and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure; maintaining an organized sterile field; ensuring sterility of the field and taking corrective actions as needed; and preparing sterile dressings. Cleans and prepare surgical instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination areas. Assists with post procedure cleaning of the operative or other invasive procedure room and preparation of room for subsequent patients. Participates in ongoing educational and competency verification activities applicable to scrub person activities. Maintains privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Graduate from an accredited surgical technology program

Certification and Licensing:

Certified surgical technologist (CST)

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Experience:

Minimum 2 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office).
