Job Overview:
Reporting to the Subsea Pipeline Manager, the Senior Geotechnical Engineer will be working in collaboration with pipeline engineers and other design disciplines to provide technical inputs to a multi-disciplinary project team. This may involve working on multiple projects as the need arises.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Perform Conceptual & FEED Studies and detailed analyses and design as per design basis, project specifications, design codes and standards
Support subsea pipeline team on Geotechnical scope
Apply knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard situations
Prepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations and analyses including design reports and procedures
Manage own time to meet agreed deadlines and budgets and develop plans for short-term work activities in own area
Clearly communicate and explain complex issues and work to establish understanding
Essential Qualifications and Education:
5 or more years of the experience in subsea geotechnical engineering
8-15 yrs in oil and gas with major contractor or consultant predominantly performing Subsea Geotechnical engineering
Master Degree in GeoTechnical / Foundation Engineering
Experience in preparing geotechnical survey specification for subsea pipelines and subsea structures.
Experience in interpretation of geotechnical survey and lab results
Performing Pipe Soil Interaction study in accordance with DNV-RP-F114
Stability, settlement and scour design of pipeline crossing support units
Axial and lateral Friction factor for pipelines
Foundation design for subsea units
Rock berm settlement design
Demonstrate knowledge and experience of ground investigation methods (sample boreholes, cone penetration tests, pressure-meter etc.) with preparation of laboratory testing programs for foundation design
Preparation of scope of work of geotechnical and geophysical site investigations, laboratory test assignments for pipelines
Geotechnical calculations and preparation of technical reports, specifications and contract documents
Interpretation of ground investigation data from site investigation
Calculations of gravity base and shallow foundations bearing pressure, settlement, sliding resistance, horizontal-vertical-moment interaction
Earthwork design, specification and implementation
Subsea Seismic and dynamic soil structure interaction, seismic slope stability, and seismic hazard analysis
Geohazard assessment and recommendations for risk mitigation, ground improvement, liquefaction, scour.
Novel foundation concepts
Knowledge of offshore foundation design methods
Experience of numerical modelling and geotechnical software including FE analysis, ABAQUS is preferred but not essential
Preferred Qualifications and Education:
Produce accurate work, possess the required geotechnical skills to demonstrate a high level of knowledge and experience. You should be capable of providing technical input, services and leadership to projects including geotechnical calculations, reports, drawings and other project documentation as well as being familiar with national standards and codes of practice etc.
Be a team player and able to work independently with minimum supervision, and possess good verbal and written communication skills
Be able to make competent contributions to resolution of geotechnical issues
Provide leadership, mentoring and guidance to others and, where relevant, share experience with the wider department
Preferably a Chartered member (or actively planning to become Chartered) of Institute of Civil Engineers or similar professional engineering society
Strong working knowledge of many design techniques and analysis methods, and detailed knowledge of the content and application of standards codes and guidelines as applicable
