Job Posting Summary

This entry-level position in research administration provides key high-level administrative support for the Associate Provost for Research, Grants, and Academic Initiatives, the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), and the Institutional Review Board (IRB). This person contributes to productivity and effectiveness in these offices by establishing and enhancing systems and processes for data collection and reporting as well as policy compliance; organizing events for presentation and development of student and faculty research; assisting in grant and funding discovery; supporting the work of the IRB to ensure compliance with relevant and emerging regulations and related risk management issues; and preparation of workshop materials for grant recipients, IRB applicants, and others engaging with grants and research-related pursuits. This position provides an opportunity for professional growth for a person willing to develop or enhance grant writing and research management skills. The next Manager will have or develop an understanding of (a) grant-making and grant-writing and (b) the IRB process and the role that process plays in ensuring protection of the rights, welfare, and well-being of subjects involved in research. In addition, the Research and Grants Manager provides occasional administrative support for Mercy’s Center for Global Engagement.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • Master’s degree required.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Solid research and information gathering skills.

  • Confidence and competence to work independently and prioritize a complex workload that supports multiple units.

  • Ability to perform tasks with a high level of accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail.

  • Writing skills as are applicable to correspondence, reports, and grant (or other) proposals.

  • Ease in handling conventional correspondence, schedules, and administrative activities.

  • Excellent computer skills, particularly in Banner (or similar enterprise system); MS Excel, Word, and Outlook; Formstack and Microsoft Forms; and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace.

  • Ability to travel between locations required.

    Physical/Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to meet all general health requirements for the position as per university policies.

    Compensation offered will be commensurate with the educational background and work experience of the individual.

The Mercy University Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:

Deferred Compensation Plan

All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the University.

Defined Contribution Plan

Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy University and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.

If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources. The Defined Contribution will begin as of the first day of the month following receipt of the completed waiver form.
