Job SummaryThe Policy Associate, Government Relations provides efficient administrative and legislative support to IEEE-USA's government activities programs and committees. He or she supports and regularly works with a four-person professional staff and directly reports to the Director of Government Relations. He/she works under the regular supervision of the Director of Government Relations.
The Policy Associate has the primary responsibility of supporting specific committees and programs within the Government Relations Department, including drafting, editing, processing and tracking policy documents, including position statements, as they move through the IEEE policy approval process. He/she will support the advocacy efforts of the Government relations team, including monitoring and responding to legislation, hearings and regulations and scheduling meetings on behalf of the GR team.
The Policy Associate will provide administrative support for both the IEEE-USA Fellows program and WISE internship program, which includes processing and tracking applications, managing contracts and other routine duties.
As requested and needed, he or she provides back-up support for other government activities committees and programs.
The scope of his or her responsibilities requires that he/she process work from multiple sources, collaborate with other staff, and establish work priorities based on departmental goals and calendars.
He or she will work routinely with volunteers, including the Vice President, Government Relations. He or she will interact with IEEE-USA members, the general public, Congressional officials and their staff members, other US government officials, vendors, and others in order to schedule meetings, execute information requests, prepare orders, procure inventory, and other administrative tasks.
He or she will process payments and invoices, and prepare and distribute financial reports for multi-Society collaborations such as the Congressional Visits Day.
He or she will work occasionally with confidential information such as individual members' demographic, identity and credit information.
Other duties may be assigned.
